Home Metal Detecting

Fines? Is this a battlefield?

Does anyone know if it is prohibited to detect on battlefields? I have several nearby, but they are all on state property. Do you think the state of North Carolina would frown upon detectors?

You should always check with the entity that controls the ground ie: National Parks Service, State Park Service, Parks & Rec etc...

Most designated battlefields are off-limits however good patient research can yield information on where the camps and bivuoacs were, line of march, minor skirmishes leading to the main battle, picket lines, observation posts etc etc... many times these will be out of the boundaries of the battlefield itself.

As far as I know all civil war battlefields are off limits. However, private property that was once a battlefiend does not fall into that category.
