They are 89's and unless you are shooting for 10s then no, not a good investment. Of course if you want them slabbed for your own collection then it doesnt matter much.

Edited for the , um , well , 88 part imageimage

I don't do much collecting anymore , just thinking about getting rid of all of what I have . Didn't know if they were grading or not , there are maybe a quite a few 9's 10's in what I have . Just curious .

Even if you did get them graded, unless you did it under a $5 special, you would not probably end up breaking even, if they came back 10s. Would not even take a chance on grading any common cards.

Well I guess I could put them in groups and see what they do here .

They are worthless. Grade them if you want to keep them. Do not bother grading for a profit. You will lose money. I would just donate them to your favorite local charity and move on. Just my 2 cents.

There's plenty of value to those cards; it's one of my favorite sets. As for grading, well, maybe if they were Tiffanys but not regulars. Save that grading money and buy yourself a nice 1989 Topps factory set instead. image

I guess sentimental mostly. 1989 Donruss and 1989 Topps were the first baseball card packs I ever got (I was nine years old at the time). And I like the design of both sets.

13 more years and you will catch up!! Oh crap, that will make me 13 years older!!image
  • lol i have about 10,000 1989 topps in my basement...if i could recycle them into something useful; i would, occasionally i stuff them into stacks of old lottery tickets (to fatten em up) and the lottery has a recycling program that pays you one new ticket for 25 old ones. I do stacks of 250 tickets, (really about 200) and fatten em up with crappy overproduced baseball cards image

My preference would be to just donate. In my seemingly never ending quest to thin out my collection and gain greater focus, I just donated 70,000 cards to my local Boys and Girls Club. The Club, and the kids that were there, seemed absolutely thrilled. I am glad to see they are going to good use instead of being stacked in my closet.

As a few others have said, unless you're 100% sure they'll get 10s, it's not worth the trouble if you want to sell them.

Sometimes player collectors will pay high for PSA 10s. For example, just doing a quick search on Ebay...

    1989 Topps Mike Schmidt PSA 10 = $53
    1989 Topps Craig Biggio PSA 10 = $47
    1989 Topps Nolan Ryan PSA 10 = $41
    1989 Topps Greg Maddux PSA 10 = $21
    My Giants collection want list

I think most of us wouldn't pay the postage to ship them even if you offered them for free. Maybe that one youngster up above would but not too many others.

I recently had an unopned 1989 Topps factory set that my mother in law gave me after winning it at some silent auction. I didn't even break the shrink rap and just gave it to Goodwill! It will probably end up at another silent auction and my mother in law will probably win it again. I guess it has some value to the charity in that case!?

Just worthless (in monetary sense) to me.
