My New TTM Project

Anyone who enjoys 70's basketball cards has to think that the 1976-77 set is one of the coolest around. I mean it's like collecting postcards of your favorite players. Well I picked up a decent partial raw set recently and figured it would look pretty cool to get some of them signed. Here is the first batch I got back in.
Enjoy!

I have been putting post-it notes on the top loaders asking for certain inscriptions but he added Dr. Dunk on his own which is very cool.

Nice cards! Did you send a card to each player to sign, or get the autos at a show? Good luck with the set!

I have either been sending to their homes or NBA teams they are associated with. It's only a partial set so I will collect what I can get. I sent out 29 cards in the first wave. Already got back one RTS and Norm Van Lier opened his, stuck everything back in the SASE and mailed it back unsigned! image

That's a really wonderful set. Glad you've had mostly good luck so far.

(I was actually just thinking of the Ed Ratleff card from that set, today, watching the NCAA coverage. CBS' info ticker mentioned that Long Beach had the back to back early 70's appearances, and I mentally flashed on their best player then, Easy Ed.)

I love this Hollins auto. Lionel is one of my alltime favorite Blazers. Man, that was a great team! The following year's team was even better, until Big Red broke his foot.

    Great thread!

What were they, 50-10? I remember they were really humming. David Halberstam's book on that season is well worth reading.

Yes I do so it's kind of a bummer when players decide not to use them like the Swen Nater and Ticky Burden but they were nice enough to sign so I'm still happy.

That's pretty sweet that Nater added 33? rebounds vs. Atlanta and the date. Sweet collection.

I've been asking certain player's for inscriptions and he actually wrote on the post-it note that he was honored to sign for me. I was at that game with my dad so that's why I wanted him to add that.

Awesome autographs. Where did you get ahold of Hillman? I know he is from Sacramento. Does he still live here?

That's why I wanted to use them. It's like getting a postcard signed. I still have a bunch more to mail out so hopefully I can continue to add to the collection.

I would just like to point out, for anybody who doesn't remember him, that Ron Boone was one of the single toughest men who ever played professional Basketball. He had the combined ABA-NBA record for consecutive games played that A.C Green eventually broke.

Swen Nater also had, (coincidently also against the Hawks, a few years later), one of the funniest moments I've ever seen to draw a technical foul. He was called for a personal along the baseline and after arguing with the ref for a second and giving him his best wide eyed, Rasheed style "Who, me?!?" look, fell directly backwards on to the floor, like he had fainted. I loved the sheer creativity of that.

This is cool. Are all of the players in the set still alive?? Good luck to you. It great to see that there are players that will do this. I like the fact that you got that note back as well. I think a lot of the older players find these types of things enjoyable.

The two I know for sure that are dead is John Williamson and Maravich. Plus there are others that would want a fee or won't sign TTM so it could never be the complete set. But as a kid it was one of my favorite sets so I'll be happy with whatever I can get.

When I was a kid I always thought that the supersized diamond kings would be great for autos.
