1953 Bowman Color Reprint Set...how good do they look?

Can't afford to start collecting the real thing yet, but wondered if some of the reprint sets I've seen look any good in person.
They seem to have wider borders and I'm sure they won't be as sharp and glossy. Just wondered if anyone owned one and how they compare to the "real deal Holyfield".

I though they were mediocre at best. To fit the current 2-1/2 x 3-1/2 format, the picture portion had to be shrunk down and even then, borders on the sides are way too wide. Also, the pictures are fuzzy and the colors muddy.

Although nothing compares to the awesome 53 Color set, we of small budgets can only have the reprints of our favorite players. I haven't seen the reprint set your speaking of but I do have one reprint from the 1989 Bowman set that I had graded a few months ago. It certainly doesn't have the 'wow' factor the originals bring but I like it nonetheless - hope the picture helps.

I'm a die hard ' 53 bowman collector, and I tend to like the reprints autographed. The set is a bit blurry and color oversaturated unfortunately--copiers today are able to reproduce much finer quality.

    HAPPY COLLECTING!!!
  • I have the entire reprint set in high grade. It looks just as the other members describe - smaller, blurrier, and way, way less expensive.
