My First Auto Ball in a Long Time

I sent this out the day after Marvin Miller failed to win election to the Hall of Fame. My eyes lit up when my doorman handed me the package after I returned home from work.

This will make a nice companion to the card I won last month:

    Very nice.

When you say - sent it out - do you mean you sent Miller a ball to sign?

Yup. I was really disappointed to hear he wasn't elected...so I wrote him a nice note, bought a ball and shipped it off. I think that was about two weeks ago to the day. Someone provided me with his address about two years ago, and it was still good. He actually lives 17 blocks from me in New York City. He is truly a personal hero, and I'm considering sending him another card in the mail. This sounds silly, but I'd love to sit down for lunch and just talk about his experience in the union over the years. Anyone that thinks Miller's contribution to the game is overstated or that he doesn't belong in the HoF needs to read
Lords of the Realm. It's an incredible book and shows just how much Miller meant to the game.

Someday I'd love to add balls from the other major figures in baseball's labor history: Curt Flood, Andy Messersmith, Dave McNally, Catfish Hunter and Danny Gardella (if I could ever find one), among others.
