My rant

Bought a 89 Fleer cello case from them. BBCE was out. Got it today and it was resealed. Clear tape over factory tape. But this was 1st for me that a cello case had the Fleer tape so I opened it thinking Kruk missed the reseal and this might be special. Well their invoice was INSIDE the case. Auction states sealed case. Yeah, they sealed it !!!!!! Paid with MO and will post if they will still offer a refund. Oh and it was a corrected case. Of course. Sad. $113 bye bye.

Update-read below.

    check that misread the survey.

Have not bought anything from him in so long I don't remember.

Isn't he one of those "typical" volume sellers - he buys so much crap - he just passes it on and hopes it's ok?

  • Just emailed me that they errored and will replace the case after I ship theirs back. I was worried as I have read quite a few horror stories.

I hope there will be no problems....I just bought a 3 box rack case of 1988 Topps Football. Should arrive in the next day or two. I'll update if I think there is anything fishy about it.

I'm trying to be as respectful as possible.

I only remember him being a pretty nice guy to talk to on the phone.

I know nothing about his dealings - but with respect to your thread - it's kind of irrelevant.

You created a thread which directs heat toward a guy before you even contacted him for resolution and who - now - has given you good customer support and service yet you have a very dubious title?

    Not very nice IMO.

gotta side with stone on this...

I think you should edit the title of your thread.

  • I agree with you. When I just checked my mail I saw the emails with the Title Kruk=Krook and felt it was a little strong. I will water it down.

But in my defense who do they have working for them that opens a case to put something in it, Gary?? Duh, maybe tape the invoice on the outside or double box it. They will fix my problem and reimburse me shipping but Now I must wait another 2 weeks for a case (that I split and others who wont be happy) I have to front my cash to reship it and make a trip to the PO for them.

All because their error. My last case was resealed from them and I let it slide sorry Im not so nice the 2nd time. They have been around a while and maybe the employees should be a bit more trained. What it this wasnt a $100 case but a 25k case.

Heres your 1974 wax pack. I opened it to put your receipt in there.

I have to be honest - I'm not sure.

I will tell ya tho - over the past 20 yrs., this guy has bought millions of bucks in inventory.

He has bought out entire stores and then liquidated them - and before ebay.

The old fashioned way - SCD - and then probably sportsnet - sorta like the precursor to the internet.

He may have very little to do with the everyday workings of the mail room at his place?

Not defending him or tryin to put you on the spot - he may be everything you think he is - I just know he deals in volume - or used to.

I've purchased individual graded cards from him; never unopened material. I've had no problems.

He is a volume dealer so he has staff working for him who don't necessarily know the importance of sealed material. I've dealt with Kruk quite a few times over the years, had 1 problem with them but they rectified it no questions asked. These large volume dealers have to do things somewhat differently than those of us who sell occasionally. This is not to question your legitimate beef Rip but I have to kinda come down on the same side as Mike here. Sorry for the inconvenience it caused you.

  • Im just disappointed. I emailed during auction and was told it was factory sealed and untampered. I asked that no extra tape be put over original as that is a sure fire sign of reseal. The case was COVERED in tape. New, Clear tape.

I'll get another case and life will go on.

Whats sad is there was 2 Griffeys and a Sheffield showing. Nothing important to me but doubtful next case will be better. I found a Ripken showing on bottom and I opened it thinking ok if this is anything but a Black Box version its probally legit. It was a BBox. I now need to replace that pack. The only cello pack I have has BBox showing on top so I will use that pack. Kinda wrong to switch packs but actually Im replacing a better pack.

Even if case has all Black Boxes and nothing good showing Id rather have that than a resealed case. I want a fair chance.

Not to fight here, but you "searched the packs"?? Not only that, but you opened the pack with the BB error and are replacing it? Did I miss something???

Doesn't that mean that you just searched the case?

  • Yes all three of you are right. I searched the case. I have every right to. That was my $113 dollars sitting there and in my mind I recalled Kruks policy that I saw on the auction that refunds are for only sealed cases within 14 days and since temptation had me open it I was out already. The two others who are awaiting packs from me know I search packs to see what FF version is in there. When I have sold boxes in the past I always have said I looked for Ripken versions showing. I dont even use "collation patterns' I dont pull the packs with a certain player inside or showing, I only want ones with certain Bill Ripken versions only.

I saw the case was resealed. Then temptation had me open it. That is when I saw the invoice inside the case. Still wondering if case had been "gone thru" I then went thru the case and looked for a Bill Ripken version on top or bottom. I found one on bottom so I opened the pack. It was a BBox. My reasoning is this. Anyone with enough knowledge of collation patterns could find one pack and know what versions (FF) were in the case. If it was ANY version other than the Black Box I wouldnt think there was a problem but since it was previously opened and it had the most common version out there it very well could of been searched by Kruk or a previous owner. I paid for a sealed case but did not receive that. It wasnt until I went back to work that I though maybe I should email Kruk and let them know. I was aware of the no refund policy on opened cases but thought it wouldnt hurt to see. I emailed them and didnt say it was picked thru as it wasnt. It had many stars on top. But that is not my interest. I said it was resealed and had their invoice in it. Then in my 2nd email I told them never mind as it was too much trouble and mentioned I pulled a pack, going to replace it with a better pack.

Before any body jumps to conclusions I do not deceive or rip anyone off. I opened a pack to further my investigation but at that time I wasnt planning "if this is a BBox I'll whine for a replacement." I just wanted to know. I have bought 10-15? 89 Fleer cases and 75% of them are resealed but have yet to get a refund/replacement or even ask for one at all. I finally did this time as my last Kruk case was resealed as well and well someone who does this for a living and has employees working for them, I expect better and I finally complained.

Say you bought a new car and then you get home and see the odometer had 50k miles on it wouldnt you open the hood? Probally a bad analogy but its all I have for now.

Anyways I have already decided long before I read this thread that its best for me to forget about it and keep what I have. Oh and in my email I made Kruk aware that I did pull a pack with a Ripken on Bottom and was going to replace it. I tried to copy my email and post here so everyone doesnt think you scared me into retracting but I cant get the time and content together. email me thru the site (www.billripken.com) and I'll gladly give anyone a copy. I sent it at 2:21.

Im not going to explain anymore. Think what you will of me. Its time to go home. I know my intentions were good. If I have to leave and create a new alt so be it. Oh and that "I dont collect Bill Ripken" guy wont be me.

I've had good & bad dealing with them over the years. I wouldn't buy from them anymore unless I was sure of the condition as I bought many unopened packs that were either damaged or otherwise defective. On the plus side, they did refund me each time I returned, but I'd much rather deal with someone else unless they've got something I really need and I'm sure it's problem free. I think part of the reason they sell some subpar stuff is because of the volume they do, and their quality control is not that good.

  • You created a thread which directs heat toward a guy before you even contacted him for resolution and who - now - has given you good customer support and service yet you have a very dubious title?

Actually I strongly disagree...if in fact no one has bought from him in quite awhile...THEY are the one's who should have nothing to say.

I posted numerous times on these boards to what kind of cases Kruk sells.

I was buying cases of 89 Fleer racks last year when he was blowing them away for $49 each. EVERY single case that I bought was junk!! There wasn't a Griffey, Johnson or Ripken card in ANY of the cases.

Several emails wee sent...all went unanswered.

I had bought a couple Bulk cut card cases from him also. All the cases came with OC stars. Yah, they're nice...but who wants 65 MINT OC 1981 Nolan Ryans. With the disclaimer that stays...case opened to verify contents.

    I think what he meant was.."case opened...contents OC..so it's for sale"....

I'm sure he didn't put up the nicely centered cases..as I've never seen one.

He does what he does...you either like him or hate him...

As for me, he'll never see another dime out of me!!
