Auctions that require Paypal question

Watching an auction that states Paypal is required to bid but in the payment options, says that the seller accepts Paypal, money order or personal check. This confused me so I emailed the seller and he said he accepts any type of payment but I have to have a Paypal account to place a bid. Can someone explain this to me? If it requires Paypal to bid, why accept other payments? Is there some type of benefit to this?

I have a feeling I am going to miss out on a card I need because I no longer have Paypal.

MANY sellers got tired of dealing with non-paying bidders.

EBAY's stats show that a person who has a PayPal account
in good standing, is VERY unlikely to default on his payment
    obligation.

Sellers use this model to protect themselves. You can pay
however you wish to pay, BUT to bid/buy, you must have
    a PayPal account.

When seller lists item, there is a check-box to block certain folks.
One of the boxes blocks folks who do not have a PP account.

EBAY has access to the PP info of the buyer. (Buyer furnishes
same in their profile. If it is not listed there, bid/buy is blocked.)
