How does one request a Player Registry set?

Specifically, I would like to start a Jack Johnson set - do I just email set registry? Do I need a checklist of appropriate cards? Does PSA maintain checklists by player? What about Naomi?
Thanks.

My most recently added Master Sets (2 NFL HOFers) were requested at least a half year before they became available.

It is at the bottom of the list though so I'd say you've got at least a few months to build your collection until it hits.

<< <i>John, you've got to have 5 cert #'s correlating to the set you want to begin. Of course, you don't need that though since someone already put in a request to start a Jack Johnson set.

John,
Actually, wasn't me. While I'm happy to see the Johnson set on the horizon it will be quite a while before I start another player set. With all the heavy-hitters out there I have to find creative ways to compete with them on a modest budget.
Just out of curiosity, do you already have 5 graded Johnsons?
Arthur
I don't have ANY right know. I've got some raw being sent to PSA tomorrow, five cards (Jeffries deck, both T218s, Churchman, T9) and I'm pretty sure the T9 won't grade. I have a few other pieces, Police Gazette, Palooka Box, but nothing mainstream right now. Besides, he was excluded from a fair number of sets (T220, Ringside, Cartledge, etc.) The other sets he is in don't pop up that frequently.
Do you have any particular sources for your cards, or just hunt ebay and the like?
John
I pretty much stick to the internet. I work 7 days a week just about every week so going to shows or whatever just isn't worth it to me compared to the time put into it.
Have you seen this auction? Ends in about 5 hours and I'm sure it will see its fair share of snipes. I still don't know what the Dempsey in that set looks like. Those cards are kind of rare.
You're going to have to start dipping into all those UK sets for more JJ's.
Arthur
My problem is that I have not learned enough about most issues to bid intelligently - the auction you point out is a perfect case. Is it a $50 or a $500 card? I don't know.
The only reference material which I have used so far is Warshaw's book (US Issues only), Vintage Card Prices, general internet, and you - thanks again btw.
I'm working on learnin' me real good fastly, but it takes a while for this old brain to ramp up.

You're preaching to the choir. I've been going at this full-steam for about 8 months now and I haven't even begun to scratch the surface. I think the one thing that helped me the most was starting a player set. In the course of hunting down certain player cards from sets you begin to notice which sets come up with frequency and which ones (like the Burstein Isaacs Dempsey) you still don't even know what they look like.
I've probably seen 2 or 3 Jack Johnson's from that set pop up from what I can remember. I'd be surprised if it didn't end in the $80-100 range. Not that that is any kind of accurate depiction of how rare it is, just what I seem to recall it ending at the last time. I can tell you though, if a Dempsey popped up in Ex-Mt condition I would go much higher than what that last JJ sold for.
The real tough part is that everything constantly changes as more people get involved in the hobby and more collectors emerge. I'm kicking myself for not picking up early-20th century John Sullivan cards (already slabbed) for $50+ just 4 months ago as the last one sold for over $150. As things become popular they enter into personal collections so to truly see what the uber-rare stuff is we'll probably still have to wait. But I search everyday for that damn Dempsey in the set and still nothing.
I wish you luck. A JJ master set is going to be fun and expensive. If you want any assistance you know I'd be more than happy to do anything I can. Let me know.
Arthur
BTW, once you have 5 certs of Johnson, request his master set - they will put a set up faster if multiple people request it.
