How often is a 10 not really a 10?

Is it just me, or does it look like both right side corners are touched? Granted, the centering is about as good as I've seen on a Jordan RC, but this seems like a 9 to me.

1986 Fleer Jordan 10?

    Yup, they are touched alright.

    Thats how it goes sometimes.

I have been disappointed in some of the "10's" I have received.

However, in my experience I get alot more I am happy with.

It happens with all grading companies.

I think you're right. I also think that the L/R centering is not 50/50 either!

Its not 50/50 but a 10 is alowed to be 55/45 to 60/40 on the front.

I would be more concerned with centering. It is possible that the "white" we are seeing is not wear. It could be the angle of the cut where we are actually seeing the side of the card. I have seen that on occasion. Not saying that's the case, just it's a possibility.

  • Must be a big submitter.

    I submit that same care?

    NM 7, my brothers!
  • Corners are touched and the cenetering is crappy. I would be VERY happy w/ this grade if I was the owner.

  • I have given up trying to determine what makes a 10. I don't know if I would say that the number is 50% of them not deserving it, but it might be close. Good for the submitter, not so great for the buyer.

But, it is said here time and time again. Buy the card and not the holder.

A 9 Lambert rookie just went for $235 that looks just about as nice as the 10 that went for $4,500. I would take the 9 and spend the remaining 4K plus on some other cards.

It seems as though some people have too much money! Why don't they get in a bidding war over my cards?

That Jordan RC is a 9 residing in a 10 holder.
Happens all the time. Cards are both undergraded and overgraded
by one full grade on many occasions. Happens with ALL grading companies. That's just how it is.

I would ask the seller to send you a very large scan of the card in question and judge it from that.

Grading is subjective to a degree.

I wish they were in a 10 mood with my membership sub - I thought I was gonna see a 10 on one card.

I guess that's why I like solid 6s in older sets and affordable 8s in others.
