2 separate ebay questions...

1. I got a notice yesterday from eBay, about needing to pay my selling fees, or my selling account being suspended, etc. This was on the My eBay page, so, it's on the up and up.... My fees are set to draft from my checking automatically, and have done so, without hitch for 3 or 4 years.... Is it not doing so? Who should I contact to straighten it out?

2. I won an item a month ago. The seller does his "own insurance" or whatever. His original invoice charged me more than the stated amount. I sent an email, requesting a corrected invoice. I have sent 4 or 5 emails, both through eBay, and directly to his email listed on the listing, stating that I will gladly pay for the item, as soon as he sends the corrected invoice. This week, I get an unpaid item reminder. I sent two more emails this week, and still have recieved nothing. What should I do? It's only a dollar of "extra" insurance on a $12 item, but it's more of a principle thing... It's says $1 for insurance, and I don't feel that I should have to pay $2, when the auction plainly states $1. Petty, I know....

Any advice is appreciated.

If he wants to send you reminders you could open up a dispute about him charging excessive fees not described in the auction..............petty, i know, but it IS the principle!

Anything under $50.00 shouldn't require insurance. Remember, you are the customer, insurance is your option, not his requirement.
  • re#1....I would double check to make sure you are set up for automatic payments; also, review your account status to see if you have any past due invoices. the billing cycle is the last day of each month. lastly, I would double check to see if the account from which you make automatic payments has somehow changed in any way or if the balance in that account was too low to pay the invoice at the time the payment was scheduled to be made.

#2....pay the buck. you already wasted more than that writing emails. just don't buy anything from this guy anymore. a neg is not worth a $1.

    1. No clue

    2. Click; Site Map, then -Connect, then -Find Contact Information... Fill in the info and you should receive an email. This should get you the sellers'phone number, address etc.

#1. My account is fine. I'll check to see when the withdrawals hit my account... I've just never seen this notification before, and nothing's changed.

#2. I guess I'll have to try to call the guy. I guess I could pay the dollar, and just neutral/negative FB him, for refusing to send me an invoice.

My seller account is setup for automatic payment and I got the same notice yesterday.

Maybe because my dollar volume has increased recently, hence the fees are higher than were my past fees on the average, it's a few hundred bucks in fees but that's higher than normal for me - I really don't know.

The seller's terms constitute a clear violation of EBAY's TOS.

Sellers are NOT permitted to charge - ala carte - buyers for
"self-insurance." Sellers ARE permitted to state a S&H fee
    that includes insurance.

Sellers are NOT permitted to charge buyers more than the
    ACTUAL cost of USPS/UPS insurance.

The seller is using a "local insurance company" as his auction states.

  • Ethan....the ebay policy states that the insurance provider has to be licensed. That's it. If the local insurer is licensed, then that is all that is necessary. But as storm said, he can't charge more than his actual cost.

    ////////////////////////////////////////////////////

    That is just fine.

But, sellers are not permitted to seek an ala carte reimbursement
of premiums paid to any private insurance carrier. The exception
to that is when a seller pays any insurance-carrier on a piecemeal
basis; in that event, the exact cost can be quoted and charged
to a buyer ............... IF a buyer using PayPal is ignorant enough
    to pay it.

The correct language that such a seller may use is:

"Shipping and Handling includes insurance against loss or damage."

The insurance fee must be burried within the S&H quote, and cannot
be stated as a stand-alone item. Doing otherwise violates EBAY's
TOS and most/all state stautes and/or regulations.

Again, buyers using PayPal are simply throwing their money away
when they give in to sellers' demands for insurance payments. If
all buyers would stop falling for the con, sellers would start giving
accurate and complete S&H quotes in their listings.
