2007 Topps Derek Jeter, where will it end up?

The card went from $1 a week ago, to highs above $100, and even today, I'm seeing folks hitting the BIN for $25-35.

It's obvious that this card is coming down fast, but where do you think it'll land? Back to $1, or do you think it'll stay above $10?

I hope it goes back under $10, so I can pick one up for my set. I sold the one I pulled for $75, so I'm in need.

I think it will be a $2 card or less within 12-18 months.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Heh, I've had pretty good luck pulling the Jeters (1 pack from Target = Jeter; 1 blaster from WalMart = Jeter). Too bad I didn't pull them 1 week ago. image

I've got them both on Ebay right now (just like everyone else, their mom, and their dog).

If I move fast enough, maybe I'll build the 2007 Topps series 1 set for free....

if topps makes a corrected version, the error will settle in the $20-25 range probably. if they do not issue a corrected version, it should settle about $5 as a novelty.

What's another example of a "fad" card like this (of a star player) to suddently catch fire, but burn out fast?

I remember the 1990 Score Bo Jackson b/w card. However, Bo's cards, in general, lost a lot of value after he got injured.

I also kinda remember the 1985 Donruss Tom Seaver, corrected version, which was only available only in factory sets, being pretty hot during the late 80s/early 90s error craze. There doesn't seem to be a price difference anymore though, both are cheap.

  • This fiasco is a joke.....in another months time every Walmart will have Topps team sets for $3.95.

    Will they just exclude Jeter???

    No....

The Walmarts here still have hoards of '06 sets kicking around...I don't think '07 will be any different.
  • Easy, I got three.

    1) The 1990 Donruss Nolan Ryans. The cards with the wrongbacks were selling for $100 but can now be found for $.25.
    2) The 1991 UD Frank Thomas was quite the hot card for awhile due to the fact he was giving the cameraman the finger. But UD denied it and never corrected it. The card's value shot back down.
    3) The 1990 Classic "Nolan knows Bo." Once again an overhyped card that was selling in the $50 to $100 range. Now back down to practically nothing.

Nothing like a trip down memory lane.

I'm wondering if this would be a card like the FF without eBay? Due to the internet people can spend a ton on the first few that are listed, but then it becomes obvious that 10000s were printed... Without it, it would take longer I would think... Did that make any sense?

Looking for Jonny Gomes cards, especially Triple Threads and printing plates. Will consider all cards, though. Got something? Contact me at c_u_l_1@yahoo.com

I never remembered that card being "hot" for any reason (besides the fact that it was a Frank Thomas card). In California at least, that card wasn't anything that got the other kids excited when the trading binders came out. Everyone was too busy looking for Todd Van Poppel cards.

The FF card still sells raw for over $10 on Ebay. Get a PSA 10, and you're looking at $100+

  • I'd take all the Jeters that I pull right now and send them in at $13 for 5 day turn-around...

Get a couple quick 10's out there and the 9's should do well too..

Topps has already said that they will 'correct' the card for the factory sets.

The card IMO will settle at the 20.00 range for quite a while.

I see that card as a 10.00 card forever.

Is it possible that the factory set version will end up more valuable, because it may be produced in significantly less quantities...?

Good point Marc, however because John and Sally Q Public are the ones that drove this price up on the 'error' the corrected version IMO will go for less.

Also the 'error' does have Bush on it.

Good points as usual though marc.

Whatever it sells for, it's a good thing. It already has brought many more people into our quiet little hobby.

  • Difference between the FF and the Jeter is The FF was printed for 2 weeks. Then they made xx corrected verions. The Jeter will only be corrected in factory sets. I think Jeter will get to under $5 within the year. I have spent $300 on 2007 Topps (4 hobby boxes,3 jumbo packs,2 racks and one hobby pack and 21 retail packs) and sold $214 so far and expect to break even or lose $50 or so.

If it wasnt for those Jeters ( well I would of only bought 5 packs) I didnt pull one auto or jersey so I would be at a signicicant loss.

Team Sets,Racks,Retail/Hobby packs,Jumbo packs theres alot of Jeters in those. I get 1-2 Jeters per hobby box in the 4 boxes I bought so their not rare. At $25-$50 guaranteed back to me and a chance of a Gold $200 appx. or Copper $400+ appx. plus the other autos, GU 1/1. Its a steal to get boxes IMO. buying retail packs was my mistake as I didnt get a Jeter. Maybe collation patterns? As 5 boxes at Walmart was each missing 8 packs. ??

Remember the Santa Proset, Bo knows, FF, Leon Finger. All had media attention but eventually......

Is Topps actually going to print more cards for this set? They inserted the printing plates into the packs. Maybe they will just be printing up this 1 card to replace the "error"

i think you underestimated its high point...the card traded for $400, and many trades at $300, even more at $200....

eventhough the card was selling at $49.99 BIN, uneducated buyers were still paying $250 plus...

i attributed this craze to the NY Post front page article that had a picture of the card....when baseball cards are featured in traditional news media, especially since it involved the New York Yankess, those crazy New Yorkers "just had to have one" no matter what the cost! well they got one alright, lets just hope it doesnt give these "new collectors" a sour taste that would cause them to despise the hobby....
  • The plates are marked 1/1 but there were more than one of each plate made.

Besides the NY Post alot of other major daily papers in many other cities also ran with the story. To say that New Yorkers fueled that market is not quite right. I bet people from all over the US bought into that crapola.

Ya but when the New york Papers showcased two of their own (mantle and Jeter) it was mostly crazed Yankees Fans that drove it!
