Please Allow Me to Introduce Myself

I have been a lurker on this forum for a while waiting for an opportune time to introduce myself. It looks like this a very knowledgeable place to share our hobby. I posted in the forum member interview thread to give you all a little more info about me. I have posted some over in the coin forums but that place is going down hill fast.

My story, I started collecting cards in 1978. I still have most of the first cards I collected but they are in very poor shape. Like many kids they were rubber banded and carried with me everywhere. I collected at a very steady pace up until about 1994. I started collecting again in 2006 and still have the same fun as I did as a kid. My main focus is collecting Cincinnati Reds team sets and a Pete Rose Basic PSA graded set. I am currently working on a website that showcases my collection and has my want and trade lists.

My most recent pick-ups were a box of 2007 Heritage and a box of 2007 Topps this past weekend at a show. I also picked up a few raw 65 Topps commons for my 65 Reds team set.

I look forward to participating on the boards

  • Hi Mike

A lot to be said for having cards you collected yourself as a youngster

A very special pleasure looking at them and realizing you bought them with the gum as a teenager for the shear enjoyment of collecting sports cards ( and blowing bubbles with some of the sticks )and not for monetary gain

But nothing wrong with being happy that they are now worth many times the $.01 they cost originally

I figured several people would get the Stones reference.

<< <i>Greetings and oh no, another Pete Rose fan to fight with on the 'bay. >>

    - No fighting there are enough Rose cards to go around! image I have been a huge fan of Pete during his playing days and of the Cincinnati Reds in general.

<< <i>By the way, what is that thing in your icon ? >>

    - It is an indian relic called a bannerstone carved out of slate. It is not mine but I do have one that is almost as cool.

<< <i>A lot to be said for having cards you collected yourself as a youngster >>

    - Yes, I treasure these cards. I am a bit more condition conscious these days though.

    Thanks

    Hi Mike

    Welcome!

Congratulations on getting back in to the hobby with focus - that's quite admirable!

Don't be shy about posting scans of your pickups - I know I enjoy seeing what others have picked up!

BTW, I was just curious - what were they selling the Heritage boxes for at the show?

Good luck on your team and Pete Rose sets.

Don't be a stranger - and Boo beat me to it!

  • Stone, I paid $60 for a 24 pack hobby box. I did not pre-order any Heritage because I am only interested in the Reds cards. I was just going to wait and buy the team set because I knew It would be expensive to try and pull all of the reds cards from packs. But, those shiney new boxes wrapped in plastic kept calling my name and I had to buy a box on the way out the door.

I only pulled two Reds cards. Hopefully I can trade for or buy the rest. I did pull an A-Rod GU bat card though.

    Thanks

  • The Humpty Dance Lyrics --miss hearing this song.

Verse One: Humpty Hump (Shock G)
    All right!
    Stop whatcha doin'
    'cause I'm about to ruin
the image and the style that ya used to.
    I look funny
but yo I'm makin' money see
so yo world I hope you're ready for me.
    Now gather round
I'm the new fool in town
and my sound's laid down by the Underground.
I drink up all the Hennessey ya got on ya shelf
so just let me introduce myself
My name is Humpty, pronounced with a Umpty.
Yo ladies, oh how I like to hump thee.
And all the rappers in the top ten--please allow me to bump thee.
    I'm steppin' tall, y'all,
    and just like Humpty Dumpty
you're gonna fall when the stereos pump me.
    I like to rhyme,
    I like my beats funky,
I'm spunky. I like my oatmeal lumpy.
I'm sick wit dis, straight gangsta mack
    but sometimes I get ridiculous
I'll eat up all your crackers and your licorice
hey yo fat girl, c'mere--are ya ticklish?
    Yeah, I called ya fat.
    Look at me, I'm skinny
It never stopped me from gettin' busy
    I'm a freak
I like the girls with the boom
I once got busy in a Burger King bathroom
    I'm crazy.
    Allow me to amaze thee.
They say I'm ugly but it just don't faze me.
I'm still gettin' in the girls' pants
and I even got my own dance
    {Chorus:}
The Humpty Dance is your chance to do the hump
Do the Humpty Hump, come on and do the Humpty Hump
Do the Humpty Hump, just watch me do the Humpty Hump
Do ya know what I'm doin', doin' the Humpty Hump
Do the Humpty Hump, do the Humpty Hump
    Verse Two:
People say "Yo, Humpty, you're really funny lookin'"
that's all right 'cause I get things cookin'
Ya stare, ya glare, ya constantly try to compare me
but ya can't get near me
I give 'em more, see, and on the floor, B,
all the girls they adore me
Oh yes, ladies, I'm really bein' sincere
'cause in a 69 my humpty nose will tickle ya rear.
My nose is big, uh-uh I'm not ashamed
Big like a pickle, I'm still gettin' paid
I get laid by the ladies, ya know I'm in charge,
both how I'm livin' and my nose is large
I get stoopid, I shoot an arrow like Cupid,
I use a word that don't mean nothin', like looptid
I sang on Doowhutchalike, and if ya missed it,
I'm the one who said just grab 'em in the biscuits
Also told ya that I like to bite
Well, yeah, I guess it's obvious, I also like to write.
All ya had to do was give Humpty a chance
and now I'm gonna do my dance.
    {Chorus}
    Breakdown:
Oh, yeah, that's the break, y'all
Let me hear a little bit of that bass groove right here
    Oh, yeah!
Now that I told ya a little bit about myself
let me tell ya a little bit about this dance
It's real easy to do--check it out
    Verse Three:
First I limp to the side like my leg was broken
Shakin' and twitchin' kinda like I was smokin'
    Crazy wack funky
People say ya look like M.C. Hammer on crack, Humpty
That's all right 'cause my body's in motion
It's supposed to look like a fit or a convulsion
    Anyone can play this game
This is my dance, y'all, Humpty Hump's my name
No two people will do it the same
Ya got it down when ya appear to be in pain
    Humpin', funkin', jumpin',
    jig around, shakin' ya rump,
and when the dude a chump pump points a finger like a stump
tell him step off, I'm doin' the Hump.
    {Chorus}
Black people, do the Humpty Hump, do the Humpty Hump
White people, do the Humpty Hump, do the Humpty Hump
Puerto Ricans, do the Humpty Hump, just keep on doin' the hump
Samoans, do the Humpty Hump, do the Humpty Hump
    Let's get stoopid!

Saw it live in '94 (Voodoo Lounge tour, at the Rose Bowl); do it for karaoke sometimes.

I'm thinking lips and tongue, not nose.

Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

And I was 'round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
    Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate

    Pleased to meet you
    Hope you guess my name
    But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

    I stuck around St. Petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers
    Anastasia screamed in vain

    I rode a tank
    Held a general's rank
    When the blitzkrieg raged
    And the bodies stank

    Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
    Ah, what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah
    (woo woo, woo woo)

    I watched with glee
    While your kings and queens
    Fought for ten decades
    For the gods they made
    (woo woo, woo woo)

    I shouted out,
    "Who killed the Kennedys?"
    When after all
    It was you and me
    (who who, who who)

    Let me please introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached Bombay
    (woo woo, who who)

    Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
    (who who)
    But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah, get down, baby
    (who who, who who)

    Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
    But what's confusing you
Is just the nature of my game
    (woo woo, who who)

Just as every cop is a criminal
    And all the sinners saints
    As heads is tails
    Just call me Lucifer
'Cause I'm in need of some restraint
    (who who, who who)

    So if you meet me
    Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
    (woo woo)
    Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I'll lay your soul to waste, um yeah
    (woo woo, woo woo)

    Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, um yeah
    (who who)
    But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down
    (woo woo, woo woo)

    Woo, who
    Oh yeah, get on down
    Oh yeah
    Oh yeah!
    (woo woo)

Tell me baby, what's my name
Tell me honey, can ya guess my name
Tell me baby, what's my name
I tell you one time, you're to blame

    Oh, who
    woo, woo
    Woo, who
    Woo, woo
    Woo, who, who
    Woo, who, who
    Oh, yeah

    What's my name
Tell me, baby, what's my name
Tell me, sweetie, what's my name

    Woo, who, who
    Woo, who, who
    Woo, who, who
    Woo, who, who
    Woo, who, who
    Woo, who, who
    Oh, yeah
    Woo woo
    Woo woo
