new ebay scam- be careful...

or maybe this is old.

I just received an email with the heading "Please send me total amount for eBay item #233820097877". I haven't sold anything for a couple months, so I new something screwy was up. I clicked on the item link provided in the email where it asked for my username and password. My username is saved on my system, so I new this was a scam. I went directly to ebay's site to search the item number, and there was no so animal. Not sure if ebay's fraud prevention actually works, but I sent them the message anyway.

So, AGAIN, be careful for a-holes trying to get your username and password via email. Always go through ebay. I know this sounds like a broken record, but these scam artists seem to be getting trickier.

I got an e-mail tonight informing me that my account was suspended and to click on a link to "unsuspend" my account, lol! The e-mail was addressed to me as "Dear ebay user". My day is not complete if I don't get at least one bogus ebay or paypal e-mail. Sometimes I get 4-5 in a day. The scammers never stop.

If I'm bored I sometimes click on these spam links and enter an ID and password which describe things these jackholes should go do to themselves that is probably anatomically impossible....

It's good to post messages about this every now and then on a consistent basis to warn people of these scams.

Bottom line - never click on an e-mail link. Never!

Even when a friend e-mails me a seemingly harmless link to something that looks legit, I copy it and google it to see what it looks like first, then I click on directly to their website and find the information - it only takes seconds.

Stevek, I usually delete all emails I do not recognize, occasionally I click open if it looks like a pay pal or ebay question, after that it is pretty obvious that it is a spam and then I delete without providing any info. Is there any harm in opening the email and then deleting. I like your idea of the google check. Thanks
  • Scooter, Great idea, I have thought of doing that, they will not like the password I give them.image

I just forward them all to

    spoof@ebay.com

then delete them and delete the two form
emails that come back from ebay

at least ebay gets the info this way.

it would be even bettter if they started doing
    something about them.

Here's a new one I just got from these irritating vermin. In the browser it showed that it was obviously not an ebay link:

    Dear eBay Member,

Your monthly eBay Invoice is now available for online viewing.
Invoice Date: Saturday, Mar 10, 2007
    Amount Due: $15.24

You can review your current Invoice details and Account Status at any time by clicking this link:
    View Invoice

For future reference, you can access your invoice by following these steps:

Go to the eBay Home page.
Click My eBay at the top of the page, and sign in with your eBay User ID and password.
Click the "Seller Account" link (below My Account in the left navigation menu).
    Click the "Invoice" link.

    Regards,

    eBay
