New shipping charges for 4 Sharp Corners

FYI-Looks like 4 Sharp Corners has raised their shipping charge to $4.00 per card. I've spotted this on many of their current listings. I do realize that they are free to charge what they wish. However, would this prevent you from bidding with them? As for me, if I wanted the card enough, I would factor the shipping into my bid. Just curious. Anyone? Thanks.

USPS rates are scheduled to go up soon.

At least 4SC usually packs their stuff nicely.

Storm, you are correct about their shipping practices. Just wondered if this would prevent anyone from bidding. Thanks.

  • Never had one issue with shipping from them. Bottom line is to figure that in with your bid.

$4.00 is only for the first card. They offer a significant shipping discount for multiple card purchases (as long as you bid under the same seller's ID). They are one of the very best sellers on ebay, IMO.

4 Sharp Corners is one of my favorite eBay (PSA) sellers. Who else would sell you HOF's PSA 10's in mass for under $10.00, and somethings under $5.00. I think most purchase several cards like me so the extra $1 won't matter much.

I guess the only time it could be an issue is if you're bidding on something cheap. People might not want to spend $4 shipping for a card that sells for $4. But otherwise, probably not a big deal.

grote15, I'm with you. When any of the 4sc sites have a card I need, I check their listings and for the next 7 days bid on items to bring the shipping down. They usually have 2 or 3 cards at least that I can use.

I agree, I have probably spent more money with 4sc than any other seller over the past 6 months. I always bid on multiple auctions with them and take advantage of the shipping discounts.

The other day I won (7) 71 topps psa 8 basketball cards from them so with the combined shipping it worked out to be $1.09/ card.
  • you should try buying clothes or other stuff on ebay. shipping is absurdly high in many cases relative to bb cards. i defy someone to tell me how they meticulously package a card and send it for $4 including postage. to answer your question, no. I have bought many cards from 4SC and am pleased with their service. $4 is a fair charge.

You asked for it....you get it....

    Buying bulk padded mailers....11 cents each....postage 89 cents....IF delivery confirmation...add 60 cents....
    Profit...$3!!

Yah....I guess you have to pay someone to "handle" it.....so $3 for 45 seconds work......

4sc is still the way to complete a set with that hard to find card that is nowhere else. 4sc will not lose my business because they pack well, sell for a good price, ship promptly, and have good service. I don't think most people will even notice.

It actually makes sense from a business perspective. If there's a card you buy, it encourages you to look at their other items because of the "steep" savings you receive when you buy more cards. It's a good marketing ploy. Also, even if you figure it into your bid and bid $1.50 less than you normally would, the money's still going to the same place, and this way it's not getting hit with ebay and paypal fees.

And when you start having 30 or more cards in your order, shipping is below 50 cents a card.

As mentioned above, most people figure in the shipping costs when placing a bid.

So if you plan on bidding on multiple auctions to reduce shipping costs, then you will have an advantage on the person only bidding on 1 card who calculates the shipping cost into their bid.

Also mentioned above it is a great gimmick to get you to bid on multiple auctions.

But the big factor is they have awesome stuff you may not see very often.

45 seconds? takes me at least 5 minutes to package a card properly. I only sell cards over $100 in value but I use a box, bubble wrap, print the label, (about $0.75 for all of the material) add e-signature confirmation ($1.35) and charge $3.00 to ship. I lose money on the shipping. Regardless, 4SC includes insurance and signature confirmation in their price. They lose money or barely break even. I have zero problem with a seller like this charging me $4 to do it right and they do it right every time.

4SC is by far my favorite ebay seller for PSA cards. I'll pay the $4 with a smile on my face.

They don't even come close to loosing money......if they get a signature delivery on a high end card....they come close...but that's on high end stuff only.

For a single card...say a cheap PSA 10 for $15 with $4 S&H....they will put it in a padded envelope...wrap it around a couple times and seal it. Put your name on it and mail it.

Same card another dealer....card is in a sealed graded bag....card board on 2 sides...taped together so the card doesn't bend. Put in a padded mailer...addressed...marked FRAGILE...DO NOT BEND on BOTH sides.....and all for $2.50. (Cost...87 cents for postage...50 cents for delivery confirmation...11 cents padded mailer.....Profit from shipping & handling 42 cents) No a big profit....but none the less......

Better protection...better packing job....close to 1/2 the price!!
Same dealer $2.50 for the 1st 3 cards won...50 cents each card after that...STOPS at $8.00!!!! Why charge more and put it in a flat rate box that was free to begin with??

They have a ton of stuff..don't get me wrong....just don't tell me they don't make profit off s&h!!

I live 30 miles from them and they charged me $24 to ship and order. It came flate rate for $8.10......but like you all say....

    "hey.....need the cards...so I paid the piper"

    Still doesn't make it right!!

Seems reasonable. I charge $4 s/h for first card with a substantial discount thereafter, free after winning 5. I just assume bidders calculate this along with their bid.
  • StingrayStingray Posts: 8,843 ✭✭✭
Agreed, it is better to try and win a couple of auctions just to take advantage of the discount in shipping. But even at $4.00 I have no problem, but that is about the max I would like to start paying.
  • I have no problem with the shipping charge.
    My Topps Heritage site.
  • Agreed 5STAT...I always receive the cards in a bubble mailer (with no protection sleeve) wrapped like a burrito. Shipping one card or two like that and they DO make money.

Now, they have a nice product and you can count on them, so you usually factor this into your bid
  • I am paying $1.35 shipping now per bubble mailer instead of .87 cents. This is based on my last few sales. So I believe shipping went up already. $4 is a fair amount to pay for shipping for a single card. It's a pretty good side business to sell about 20 thousand cards a year and make an extra couple bucks on each. It surely adds to the bottom line and plays a heavy factor on the cards that they lose money on which I'm sure there are quite a few. Shipping is always factored into my bids. 4SC is top notch in my book as far as service goes. I've won many items from them and have never had a problem.

I really like 4SC. I often bid on many cards and am happy to pay $1.00 for each additional.
  • grote15grote15 Posts: 29,757 ✭✭✭✭✭
Maybe it's me, but complaining about a seller with superior customer service and the large inventory that 4SC has, along with the fact that they heavily discount additional purchases, is just petty to me. I guess you'd never ever bid for a true auction item, as the "buyer's premium" or "juice" the major auction houses charge on top of the winning bid seem like grand larceny next to something like this, huh?

  • Comparing eBay purchases and 4 dollar shipping to major auction houses and their juice isn't really apples to apples.

I understand what you are saying, but to some people every dollar counts.

Bottom line - as many have said you factor it into your bid and move on.

I agree with that point. And 4SC, as evidenced by the vast majority of posts here, obviously isn't losing any sales due to shipping fees.
