Cards in pages grading question/opinions

Let's say cards from the 50s have been kept in pages for 30+ years, what do you think the average grade would be? Just a thought on what grades you have received from cards that have been in pages for most of their "life" as opposed to top loaders. My only experience is recently I purchased 2 54 Topps cards that were stored in pages for quite some time. They both graded as PSA 6 and I was pleased/surprised.

I think a lot depends on the enviroment, and if they are moved around a lot. If you stored some 50's cards at room temp in a dark room without moving them, In my opinion they could be; excuse the phrase, "pack fresh."

It probably depends on how yellow they turned after being stored in the older pages that were not "archival safe".

I had some pages I bought when I was kid in the 80's and the cards that were in them all turned yellow.

"Let's say cards from the 50s have been kept in pages for 30+ years..."

Besides the answers you also received, it would also depend a lot on where/how the cards were stored this 20 plus years.

Also, pages made 30 years ago where made of PVC. So they might be chemical stained/changed from the pages.

Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

  • I stored my entire card collection in my parents attic for over 20 years before deciding to get back in the hobby. Many of the 71's that were in shoe boxes came back 8's from PSA.
