What's hot, what's not?

I was big into sports cards from the mid 70's to the mid 90's, but when the majority of my collection went the way of a divorce I had the wind sucked out of my sails. Just curious to know who is making the must have RC's now a days.

Sorry if this has been asked before, I moved from Houston back to my native Montana in 94 and there aren't any shops around here to get any idea.

Thanks,
The Goob

Seriously though, I think that T206 are as about as hot as anything in a range of grades.

I think what I miss most of all is my Hornung RC, and my sheets containing nine each of Elway, Marino, Favre RC's.

Oh and my 92 Bowman Baseball.

I still have some of my pre-80's that ended up laying around the house in hiding until the evil one was gone.

It's not so much the cards that matter any more, it's the condition. For 50s PSA 8 is great, 60s PSA 9 is great, for 70s PSA 10 is great, and for 80s any big RC in PSA 10 is great.

Early to mid 90s was pretty much a black hole except for 93 Finest refractors, and late 90s til today the big RCs in the best sets are good (Manning, Pujols, Lebron, etc....) especially if they are auto'd. Also, Beckett is now insignificant. And Brien Taylor and Ryan Leaf didn't really pan out.

What do you collect right now?

I chased RCs in the early 90s - don't do that anymore. It's too much like work.

Are you looking for some suggestions on what would be fun to do right now in the hobby?

Oh Venessa Marcil...Yes, she is hot. Did you happen to see the episode where she is having the conversation with the Monk who comes in and cleans out the casino...She makes some remarks to him that were a little risque for even primetime tv...but I liked it. image

NFL HOF rc's, especially in high grade are very hot. 48 Leaf Football is hot as well. If you're a modern guy, National Treasures and Exquisite are hot right now as well.

I saw that episode but my favorite Marcil/Vegas moment was when that Joe guy from that tv show comes to the casino scouting for contestants. Sam walks into the big freezer to show him how hard her nipples get and he says "you make some good points"

The past 10 years it's been my coin collection, but I've been missing my card collection. Especially since my son is a sports fan and he asked me for a Shaq card for a diorama the other day and I started reminiscing of how I had this and that but no more.

I am looking for something to pull me back in. Of course I'm a Pack fan so it would be nice to try and replace some of my old stuff. No local shops anymore so that makes it hard. Kind of funny to hear Beckett really isn't "it" anymore. I used to be a virtual walking Beckett, and stat freak.

Most anything I collect was hot just as I was buying it. Whats cold, what ever I bought yesterday.
