Lincoln Cent Collection

Up for sale is a near-complete date set of Lincoln Cents that was hidden away in a safe for many years. (They are part of a dealer’s inventory that was squirreled away back around 1985 or so.) The coins are all in 2 x 2 flips with the previous owner’s grade listed on the front of each holder. I disagree with many of the grades. In the list below I show both the assigned grade followed by my grade. None of the key dates were in this set.
Many of the early dates were cleaned a long time ago, but the color on just about every piece looks like the natural orange color (almost) that one would expect from an “original” Lincoln cent. (The coins don’t have that pinkish hue that you see on an obviously cleaned coin.) I could not get a decent looking picture from my scanner so I photographed four of the coins with my digital camera (click the link below for the pics). This pic shows the color about right and also shows the cleaning. I picked the 1910 to show the worst example. Most of the cleaned coins are more like the 1909 vdb (first image). Many of the later pieces are totally original like the 1919-D and 1943-S shown. The pieces from the 1950’s and later are mostly MS63 or better and RED!. I did not scan these (got too tired) but they are gorgeous. If you’d like selected pics of these, let me know.
