<< <i>Icebreaker? You have not even begun to scratch the tip of the iceberg! All in all, you have opened up your keel and wallet to the dismal depths of the darkside. May you sink into the welcoming abyss and drink in the many wonderful coins to be had there. One is too many and a thousand is not enough... You are now addicted to the darkside... May the collecting be both fun and rewarding for you!

I must tell you though, the coins that attract me the most are those with a tangible history. The coins I can touch and hold in my hand, close my eyes and picture the period, the people and the events that coin has witnessed. Those are the coins that brought me to the darkside! That being said I did purchase a slabbed darksider today, but primarily in the interest of preserving the provenance
Thanks for the welcome.
Tangible? Yes, If you or anyone else have any intangible coins you would like to get rid of just send them my way... I will come up with a tangible experience of someone in history who may have had contact with that coin and add it to my collection in some way shape or form!
What slabbed coin did you buy? 2 Darkside coins in one day? You may be really bitten by the bug... Take 2 aspirin, look at the newest Krause World coin book and call your dealer in the morning!
LOL...

<< <i>Any coin has a tangible history with it. It may be a US 2 cent piece from the Civil War period, Which a General or maybe even Abe himself may have held at one time. I collect mostly German coins, from the states thru the end of WWII. SO much history in Europe, most rulers were related in one way or another, maybe a Prussian 2 mark was held by the King of England and given as payment for a meal at a stayover in a little inn on the road. An English Sovereign held by King Wilhelm and given to a Tzar as a keepsake? Even the more modern Third Reich stuff, maybe some Nazi bigwig gave a 5 mark as a token of gratitude to some server in a restaurant.

Well said.
The slabbed coin I purchased was from Lordmarcovan. He had a 1783 8 Reale "El Cazador" shipwreck coin (VF20) in the weekly Swap/BST thread a couple months ago that spoke to me in a way that compelled me to relieve the Holey one of it.
I don't have a Krause World coin Book so I'll have to settle for reading the forums for now. I did order the Biblical coin book though.

I'd say so! An almost 2000 year old coin (which probably cost less than a condition rarity toned Roosie) is a wonderful beginning!
Now move forward in century leaps (one coin per one hundred years) until you reach the 1500's and now you're into the full court press Darkside.
From there it's like a time warp that envelopes you and sucks you into a thousand little worlds, each represented by mind-blowing coins which still usually cost less than the afore-mentioned Roosie. History for the purchasing... I envy you your journey!

I'm going to start with trying to build a set of Biblical coins although the purchase of the 1783 8 Reales kinda threw that off for a bit.
