I hope you do, just like I hope these guys catch up with Topps, I got no time for people going out of their way to screw others like that, because the bottom line is that it takes planning to set people up like this.
80sjunkie---reefermadness--anyone see a common thread???
Sadly, the local cops are not going to do anything on this stuff. They are out chasing "bad guys" in their local neighborhood. As I posted previuosly--- on anyone that is doing a natiional ripoff, you need to contact the local FBI office and see if they can refer you to the agent in charge of sports related fraud. Since operation bullpen, the FBI it is believed, has devoted more agents to this side of the white collar crime scams.
topps collector emailed me and he wanted me to let everyone know that he is sending everybody cards out soon he has been out of town working on a freinds house
Your best shot is to get all of your ducks in a row and 1 person contact his local PD or LEA and speak with a supervisor and see if they are willing to at least try and help you guys out. If not, sue him. Hopefully he lives in a small community where they may have time to assist you.
We have done stuff like this and I distinctly remember one of our guys knocking on someone's door over some baseball cards and ebay. Our guy gave him X amount of days to take care of it or he'd be back with a summons. I don't recall the particulars but the suspect must have admitted to stiffing the complainant.

I spoke to someone in his PD last week- I will call back later this afternoon and see what I can come up with before I file my small claims suit 2morrow afternoon
<< <i>I spoke to someone in his PD last week- I will call back later this afternoon and see what I can come up with before I file my small claims suit 2morrow afternoon >>
a small claims suit in the amount of 700 plus court costs has been filed against John Michael, Shawn Stockton, and Derrick English (all 3 names listed on the suit) and he will be summoned to court here in MA within 30 days. If he fails to appear or doesnt resolve the matter before that he will be found liable for the amount of 700 dollars and have 30 days to pay it or a warrant will be issued (and served according to MD police) at the address of 1876 Iverson St.
A warrant issued for what? an arrest? I don't know the laws in Maryland but I would think if he doesnt show you get a default judgement which then you still need to collect. Then you can try a garnishment of assets if you can find any that he owns. Good luck with it all.

The problem after you get a judgment is getting a constable or sheriff to go and attach assets, to have an execution sale. What you might want to do is to try to contact the district attorney or equivalent in his county and see if you can get CRIMINAL charges filed.
Nobody can be arrested for a civil suit, even if he fails to appear and you get a default judgment.
I just got a message from topps collector, he told me that he has been in new york working on a freinds house, he asked me to let everyone know that they were getting their cards soon. I belive that he is telling the truth and that he is a good guy, just did not comunicate. Dave

How about him letting people know himself? Funny after the legal talk comes up, he gets in touch.
he said he was in newyork and he cant remember his password for this site because it is saved on his computer, he said he was having his roomate send out the cards Dave
Im not saying what he did by ignoring everyone is right because it definately isnt, but I did mention a couple of weeks ago when this all started that he said he was heading to NY to work on a friends home.
He still should have handled things much differently, thats for sure. I just didnt peg him for dissapearing and scamming everyone.
"The other teams could make trouble for us if they win." -- Yogi Berra
1. Why did he not mention this when he made the trades?? 2. Why did he "happen" to get online to let dp know but didnt bother to email or message me?? 4. Why did he wait until I filed the small claims paperwork to then contact??
Seems fishy to me- I dont expect anything from him- I will be very surprised
im not sure i will receive anything either...but im out only like $15...i just hate getting scammed so i sincerely hope its all a big misunderstanding!
I tried to log in to the message boards from a computer I don't normally use and I could not for the life of me remember my password. So that at least is a possibility for him.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy! Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !
I agree with SJ39. He could have let everyone know he was going to be extinct for a while before we sent our stuff out to him. And he only contacts df. There is no excuse for how he handled any of the transactions he didnt make good on.
I wouldn't give him the benefit of the doubt either. He's shown up on bad traders lists from Beckett.com to yahoo groups. It also doesn't explain the different aliases. It sounds to me like he does this a lot. Having to go out of town for awhile sounds like a good alibi that he can tell the authorities when they come to track him down. "oh I wasn't going to rip anyone off, it's just that I was out of town and not able to get ahold of anyone". "No I've never heard of a public library that would have Internet access, and no I didn't think to get my business taken care of before I left town"...."nor did I think of keeping a record of email addresses to take with me so I could keep in touch". Either that or he was trying to see how many people would just let everything slide to see what he could get away with. Call me cynical but he's an idiot. Seems a little odd that he had so many deals in the works just before he left town as well.
stll havent recieved any information or contact from him...I have filed the small claims paperwork and have to send it certified mail to his address- I delayed doing that when I heard from df- I think Monday is the deadline on that
You can read the posts without logging in, and you can also get your password e-mailed to you. That one seems like a poor excuse.
Doesn't add up either that he'd make these big trades just before leaving town without taking care of business first. Good luck to all in getting restitution from this clown.

David, I've been up in NY the past few weeks doing that house rebuild and haven't had internet access. Since the Jordan is in my security deposit box down in MD I'm getting my roommate to send you back the package you sent me(in it's entirety). Also, my roommate is sending out the 1957 Topps Robin Roberts to the guy who sent me the Cam Neely puck; and dayne drain is getting more thana couple of Ron Daynes(some extra rookies and the game used card we traded for before I left town). The Roberts and the Daynes were on my PC desk, and so he's sending them out for me. Sorry about all of this, I'm not a bad trader. I am correcting this ASAP. I would log on to CU, but I don't know my password(I've got it on auto-login at my home pc); so if you can pass along my words it'd be more than appreciative.

Well said.
I dont believe this guy is going to make good until he has too due to legal heat on his a$$
Yeah that name Shawn Stockton rang a bell when I read the early posts and although I don't have the documentation on it now, I'm about 99% sure this is the guy who stole a EX Kobe rc from me off of the Beckett forums several years ago when it was $125. I don't care as much about it now since the trade was supposed to be for a 99 Bowman Chrome Corey Patterson INTL Refractor back when he was still a top prospect with my Cubbies. Since that card is now probably about $10 I've let it go. Now that I know he's trying to ripoff a bunch of others I wish I would have at least called his local police station and notified them. Sounds like he's shafted a bunch of others since then as I've personally seen his name on at least a couple bad traders lists and I'm not even an avid trader...and that doesn't include his aliases.
notice he didnt mention anything about my trade on the email he sent to dave- interesting

Wow you guys are bulldogs. Get the sucker. I have been inspired to go after Jill Mc**** from MD as well. She took me on two deals for a total of $550 (half case of 06 Heritage and some Topps o6 boxes). I just gave up because of the cost to go after her. She had over a 10,000 rating on ebay and just left. I have a telephone number she wouldn't answer and I have a name of a lawyer in the same town. It just cost too much to go after her. Sucks. Glad to see the bad guy getting his due. I am sick of ripp offs that screw up our hobby and our community of trust. I hope you end up with that lexusin his driveway.

Hello I sent this to the original person on this thread last week I was going through and cleaning out old PM He had send me one with the following
I grew up in Salisbury, and my sister still lives in Ocean City. I lived roughly 4 years or so in OC. Hell she was a waitress at English's in Salisbury for a few years when she was in high school. Ain't nothing like those sweet potato biscuits I'm telling ya. I'm moving back to Ocean City for this spring/summer/fall before I pickup and head out to San Diego for a few years.
That was Feb 14th 2007
I am not sure if this is the area you are serving him or not
he will need to appear in court in my state which will then allow me to have a judgement against him for the amount of 700 plus court costs. From there I will need to go to MD and file with them
i forgot about this..im mad again about getting scammed..of course mine was only like $15, but its the principle of these dishonest people! its a shame!
Comments
you were at Topps' house? or 80sJunkies house?
I am getting confused.....
You can always file a civil suit against him in your local court and get a judgement against him
