Another person about to get taken

Item number: 200084191377 is a raw 1953 Mantle from our friends at Great Lakes Auction House. Bidding is at $1,808 with almost two days remaining. The ad touts the cards "nice centering" even through it is off L/R and T/B. The guy is a wordsmith though, I'll give him that.

I sent the seller a simple e-mail asking if the card had ever been graded by a 3rd party service, such as PSA. What are the odds that he responds, or if he does respond, what are the odds it will be truthful?

Assuming there are no issues with the card to prevent it being gradeable it would have to grade a PSA 6 to make the price its at now worthwhile.

With 2 days remaining there will be enough people willing to take a risk where that card most likely can end up near SMR for a PSA 7 ( $3000 )

I just cant see taking the chance when you can buy graded. Then again, there are lots of people out there who wouldnt miss $3000 and its worth it for them.

I love that 53 Mantle and will hopefully eventually own one. I guess I don't feel too bad for the people that buy from the guy since I bet they have grandiose visions of the card grading higher than we all know it will and flipping it for a nice profit. My bet is that card is a 5.

One of these days a random Ebay scammer is going to buy one of these cards, claim that PSA wouldn't grade it, and send him back a card that they cracked out of a PRO holder, at which point great-lakes-auction-house is going to have to seriously rethink his business model.

I for one had those visions but after 3 raw buys that came back as PSA 3, 3, 4, I just decided it is better to spend that kind of money on a Slabed card. image

When ever you see a nice looking card like that not graded it makes you wonder WHY???????? image

I've checked this deal out a lot lately. There are several instances I've noticed. Their seller id is great_lakes_auction_house and thier buyer id is crab-chucks. Just recently they bought a 54 Topps Duke Snider for $40 using a buy it now and they resold it for $112 I think. Unreal but I guess I shouldn't complain if people buy from them. Very nice profit if you do that over a 6 month time period or a year. They also bought a 62 Clemente for about $40-45 and sold if for about $120 so they are buying/flipping raw and graded cards and people are buying. If they made 500 deals like the Snider for a profit of $72 each that's $36,000 even if it does take a year!! Check them out on a 53 Rizzuto as well as the Mantles, T. Williams and a Ruth card recently. More importantly these cards are 5s or 6s on average and their getting what a 7 or 8 would sell for!!!!!!!!

It ended up over $2,900!!! What will it have to grade to get that money back? I never did get a response from them when I asked if the card had ever been graded. What a shock huh?

It would have to grade PSA 7, I think. Looks 5-6 to me.

Yeah, but it ended with a Buy It Now, so it's hard to say what it would have ended at...
