Hudson Valley / river detecting

Does anyone know if detecting along the Hudson River is permitted? There are Revolutionary War historic sites up and down each side and I am pretty sure detecting is not permitted on historic sites but what about along the water's edge? I'm hoping for some musket balls and of course a cannonball or two would be nice.

    I have no clue on the laws there, but follow the link below.

    Great story from that link, I wouldn't have been able to leave the spot for a year after finding coins like that however (and he even said he went detecting at other spots and didn't have time to get there!) . I would have been there until the sun went down every night! An 1877 indian even...
