Please Read time to get the faith back.

Ok please bare with me on this. I have been reading this whole fiasco with this Gary character the last few days. I never participated in any rips but seeing that alot of faith and trust has been lost on this board I think its time to turn things around. Now I am fairly new on this board but I feel like part of the community already. My passion has always been hockey. My thrill comes in buying, building and then selling a complete set for someone else to enjoy. I am NOT a dealer never have been never want to be I just enjoy collecting. The two sets I have built already are the 71opc and 79 opc sets. My 71 set was in the last Mastro auction. Currently I am building the Ice scripts sets and also purchasing autographed index cards. Here is what I would like to do to get the Faith back on this board. My first card collecting was in 1978 (Mike Bossy Rookie Year). I see BBCE has 1978 OPC wax packs for $15.00. I want to see if he has a box of 48 packs if not as many single packs up to 48 he has available. My plan is this:I will purchase the full box of 48 pay ahead of time and have Steve send them out to each and every participant. Then we will open them and share our cards in a thread for all to see. Here is where the faith comes in. I have enough faith in the board members on here that you dont pay me till you receive the packs FROM STEVE and you are satisfied and have enjoyed the rip. If for any reason you didnt enjoy then dont pay me no questions asked. I am guessing everything will work out 100%. If it doesnt well it was a lesson for me but I have the FAITH. So send me a pm you can get up to five packs each and I will work on the arrangments starting next week. It might be a little slow as this is my first time doing this but there is NOTHING for anyone on here to loose except me and I dont think that will happen. Oh ya sorry Gary you cant have any. I hope to hear from as many of you as possible and just so you all know there has NEVER been a PSA 10 Bossy rookie graded so wouldnt that be a sweet pull. Thanks for reading:Mark

That is certainly a nice gesture and an accurate reflection of the goodwill that prevails on this board every day.
If you want to get any sort of hockey rip going count me in....I enjoyed the one Bob (psaonlyhockey) organized a few months back.

But seriously, I think most of the people here feel they can trust one another. But from a logistical standpoint, it makes sense for Steve Hart to send out the packs/boxes if he is willing to do so. This makes sense for a variety of reasons: money (extra shipping to the middleman), time (get stuff quicker because of one less step), condition (the less time in the USPS' hands the better), and trust (we all trust Steve).

If Steve is willing to do it, there is absolutely no reason we shouldn't take him up on it.
BBCE gets major respect, yo

<< <i>Nice gesture, however the only trust lost here was with gary. Everyone else is fine with everyone else.

Steve, to me the saddest part of this whole thing is that unfortunately I'm not sure this is true. Sure, some of you who go way back still probably have trust with each other like any friends would. But, personally speaking, even at a sub-conscious level I think I'm going to approach things a lot differently from now on.
For example, Gary keeps rambling about how "we were all okay with the prices of the rip or else we wouldn't have signed up". Heck, I had no clue whether the football rip was a good price. I didn't add up all of BBCE's pack prices to determine if it was a good deal, I just trusted it would be. Probably that bit of trust won't be there next time.
I'm sure it will pass over-time, but I fell so stupid and humiliated right now because of getting taken. I had excitedly shown my dad and some co-workers what I had purchased. Even friends who had no knowledge of sports cards were smart enough to ask "how do you know those are unopened?", and of course I'd just confidently say "trust me, I know". Now I'm not looking forward to the "How'd that turn out?" questions.
I do have one further semi-related question that I'd like to ask the board. In regards to the water-damaged 1985 Topps football packs, is it really possible that BBCE could sent those out without knowing they were in such condition? In other words, is it really possible that one of the top 2 or 3 (or maybe top 1) pack experts in the world cannot necessarily detect water damage when inspecting a pack? Or was that another one of Gary's lies (the part about getting a replacement box from Steve)?
Thanks,
Tom

Tom I think that Steve's honesty and fair dealings are strong enough that if people here bought a box, Steve would replace the box without question. Gary got a good box from Steve, replaced it with his own junk, and then told Steve they were bad. He then got a replacement box from Steve and kept that. He had to complain to Steve to cover his tracks.

Thanks for the reponse Jim, but I guess my question is, wouldn't/shouldn't Steve know for a fact that he would not provide water-damaged packs? Or is it not necessarily possible to know 100% of the time simply from inspecting the packs? In other words, wouldn't Steve have been alarmed when Gary reported the situation (if indeed Gary actually did talk to Steve about the packs). I'm not trying to be critical of Steve in any way, I'm just wondering how possible it is that even he could not know about water damage.
Thanks,
Tom
