POLL: Should Empty Boxes/Wrappers Be Nixed

Should online auction sites like EBAY add empty product-boxes and wrappers
to their lists of prohibited items?

    No.

There are collectors of everything out there. You cannot have a restrictive policy just because some unscrupulous person can manipulate the system. Just my .02.

I have always thought that such sales were just fine,
because many folks like to have boxes and wrappers
    as part of their collections.

    With the problem of "build-your-own-vintage-pack"
scams on the rise, I now think EBAY should add
empty boxes and wrappers to their list of prohibited
    items.

Maybe in lots of 10 or more?? I do not collect them, but if someone would like to buy one from a certain year for their collection.

    I'm not sure but...

Selling an empty box, 36 wrappers and a "bulk lot" of relevant cards...

It’s like giving a loaded gun, a stash of hunting knives and a chainsaw to a serial killer.

Wrappers and boxes are legitimate collectables- I have decent collections of both and enjoy them immensely.
Should cards be prohibited since they can be trimmed and pressed?

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

I stopped selling the wrappers and boxes from my rips a while back because I just don't want to put the tools out there for people to run scams. That said, there are enough people that collect these items that warrants them being sold. I just wish I had thought of the bartop idea a while back because I think it would actually look pretty cool.

there are collectors out there who would trade body parts to get rare wrappers and boxes, particularly from the 60's on back....what would become of them?

the question of integrity will always exist....one must be trained to make wise decisions....as we have witnessed over the recent 24 hours, it is seemingly easy to discern and then discredit those who employ potentially shady practices, particularly with the ready availability of information and the connections that are made from it

the market still begs for quality material and to deny those that are truly interested in the collecting aspect would be a crime....

There is a market for wrappers and boxes, so they shouldn't be done away with.

Collectors do need to use more caution and realize that there are con artists everywhere. For example, there have been lots of people losing money on the Derek Jeter/Mantle/W cards. I have seen several lots where the description says "a 2007 Topps Jeter card without Mantle and W" with a note about how it's not the card in the picture that shows the Mantle/Jeter W card. There have also been auctions where people are paying $20 for a pack of '07 Topps. However, they see the card in the listing, think it's for the card in the listing and will be mad when they check the mail.

Griffins makes an excellent point. I enjoy collecting old wrappers and do not want somebody policing what I can and cannot buy because of something I "might" do.
  • Might as well ban the sale of laser cutters and exacto knives too....
