Wanted: MJ Roop Wooden Preservation cases

I posted a couple weeks ago and got some very helpful suggestions and a couple offers on par with the dummy that paid $200+ for a sealed case a few weeks back. I'm still in the market for up to four unused or very slightly used MJ Roop Wooden Preservation cases if anyone is looking to unload any. The last slightly used one went for $71 on Ebay last night. I'm willing to pay up to $70/case if they're in mint condition...or unused condition. I'm also attatching a link to a more economical option if anyone else is seeking one. There's also another manufacturer who sells wooden graded card cases on ebay. My email address is jeremyhaberman@comcast.net.

    Good Luck
  • Thanks for the positive encouragement. Only one person thought the case last night was worth $1 more than the $70 I bid, so the rest of the collecting world must not share your opinion.
  • "In the interest of full disclosure, I must note that the winning bidder will receive a case that is not actually in this picture"

looks like this may have kept the bids in check. There was a recent thread about another preservation case mfg'er. I just don't recall where it was but a search should get you the answer.

    good luck.

sorry, those wooden preservation boxes are worth their weight in gold....

The Archival Methods one seemed promising, but I think it's a touch too short (i.e., you couldn't get the top closed on the slabs.)
  • Really, you think so? I was going to grab a couple of those. Anyone have first hand knowledge?
  • GriffinsGriffins Posts: 6,076 ✭✭✭
A friend of mine just recieved a few of the boxes. They are exactly the same ones that Roop used to sell, not the wood preservation cases but the cardboard boxes. They will hold PSA/SGC/GAI slabs, but they aren't super strong. I have one I got from Roop a couple of years ago and it started falling apart pretty quickly. 176 slabs are pretty heavy.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • << <i>A friend of mine just recieved a few of the boxes. >>

Which boxes are you referring to? The ones at Archival Methods?

The AM website states the interior dimensions of their box are 14-3/8"W x 8 1/2"D x 5-3/8"H ... According to another post on this forum Roops box was 15-3/8"W x 9-1/4"D x 5-7/8"H - I believe these were exterior dimensions. If the AM box is wooden I think I will grab one to compare; if its cardboard I dont want it!
  • GriffinsGriffins Posts: 6,076 ✭✭✭
The AM ones are cardboard, not wooden. They are the same product that Roop originally sold, before they offered the wooden ones.
AM's binders are the same binders Roop sold, the difference being Roop screened the set name on the spine.

    thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!

One quick question. How many regular sized PSA cards does each box hold?

  • Did MJ roop make a non-wooden case like the archival methods one?

I have a wooden one - its excellent quality. I just recently thought I was purchasing another one, but when it arrived its NOT wooden, and the quality is not that great - curious if I have an archival someone labled as MJ Roop? Anyone? Maybe thats why MJ went out of business, they were buying up the cheaper ones and relabeling them as their own?

  • A friend of mine had wooden boxes made by this company. They were well made. In addition, he was able to modify the sizes to work with his graded sets.
  • How much did he charge? I see a case in the link that looks to be about right. Is that the one you're referring to?
  • I do not recall the price. He had a case made that was wider and longer then the Roop box. In addition, he had wooden trays prepared to fit within the box. If you send them the dimensions via e-mail, they will send you a price quote.
  • Very solid. Thanks again for the info.
  • Would either of you (or anyone else) happen to know the answer to my question above? Thanks. image
  • MJ Roop also sold the cardboard boxes. They were significantly cheaper then the wood. However, they were also lacking in quality.

Thanks ... and you're right the quality isnt even close to the wooden one I have! These cardboard ones seem to be EXACTLY like the Archival Methods Legacy Print Box; I wonder if MJ Roop was buying them up in bulk and just adding their sticker inside? Possibly a reason they suddenly went out of business? Things that make you go hmmmmmmmm - oh well!

jhp if you find a stockpile of wooden boxes dont horde em' lol - share with me; please!
  • It has been awhile since I looked for the MJ Roop wooden boxes. Can someone please post a link to a company that makes them or similar quality boxes? I bought what I could afford back in the day but apparently I didn't buy enough of them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. -Mike

Pics of wooden boxes? The old posts don't show the images
Looking for inspiration to build some myself.
What did people like/dislike about the boxes?
What features did people want? Hinged lid or removable "shoebox" type lid?
Handles for easy moving/travel or no handles for more of a desktop display?

  • sayheywyosayheywyo Posts: 529 ✭✭✭✭

Hinged lid with key, 4 removable storage boxes within, no handles. Fairly heavy when full. More for storage on a shelf, closet, etc...

  • There were posts on another board where a group put an order together but that was a few years back, The links in the old posts are stale so it hasn't been easy to find the company that made them for MJ Roop. If someone has a link or an idea of where to find the supplier that would be awesome.

    Stay awesome.

collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.

looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started

  • Thanks to Google I found the newest iteration of the company that made the original boxes -- Native Archival

I asked the POC about the wooden MJ Roop boxes and he sent this:

"We are the same company. We can Mfg. these, the minimum order qty is 25 units and would be 159.99 each. + shipping. Custom orders require 50% with order, balance prior to shipping. Current lead time is 10-12 weeks ARO."

With that said, they may come in between $175 and $200 each once you figure shipping and tax. They make them in Palmyra, NY.

I really use the heck out of these so I'm in for at least 5 of them. I'm in Bethlehem, PA. If we can cover 25, we can get a serious order together.

    Thoughts?

Two questions - I am likely in for a few:

Do they fit SGC and PSA?

Roughly how many cards does each one hold? That will determine how many I would buy if we order.

  • GrooGroo Posts: 303 ✭✭✭

Very interested in 2. If they fit SGC as well then they are perfection

Anyone know if they fit SGC and about how many cards each box fits? I think I would be in for somewhere between 6 to 10 depending on how many cards they fit if SGC fits too. It seems plausible we can get to the minimum order.

I have been trying to do the same for Caseworks. They seem to have gone out of business/bankrupt some time after 2017. They had a great wall-mounted baseball holder designed for a team ball (it had a three angled mirror, like a sliced off top of an octagon) that I would like to get another. Considering most of the bat, ball, helmet and jersey cases currently being sold look like they were from their molds, I am thinking some company out there has the one I am looking for.

Sad to see so little interest in these. Had hoped to see a group order.

Wow - I bought these when they were $60 to $75 a piece but it's been so long ago - going on nearly 20 years.

I recall the more expensive were wooden and the cheaper version (still sturdy) were hard cardboard.

Native Archival used to have a much more comprehensive web site with many more options than today. Interesting...

Once they are filled, they are heavy. It seems the market has moved to suitcases.

    Enjoy your collection!

The cardboard are nice but the wood are items one can proudly display.

Suitcases are great for those who carry a lot of cards around, but I'm not one of those folks.
