1935 Chicle question

I am just starting this set and don't know enough about ungraded.

The link is from a seller who has never sold anything so I don't want to bid. Is the card legit?

<< <i>I'm a meticulous collector, not a business. I've owned this card for 20 years, part of a substantial set of 1935 National Chicle Football cards I own and am now selling, so look for my other auctions. This card is ready for PSA-grading, but I let my PSA membership elapse long ago. Buy it now, get it graded, and sell it for a tidy profit! >>

That statement alone would scare me off...

It looks like a real one, I think the reprints either say reprint (fritsch) or are green printing on the back.

Are you going to do a raw set or a graded set? Those cards are beauties!

I'm not so sure about that one. I've been following the 35 Chicle's more closely for the last 6 months or so. (I only own one though)

To me it looks a little artificially aged, that doesn't mean it is however. I will say that even in PSA 1 condition that card is well over $100. I tried to find the reprint sets that had a scan of the backs but couldn't find any. They look "aged" on the front by default but it's more of a dirty look, they still have sharp corners. IIRC, the word reprint appears at the very bottom center of the card under the words "Chicle Co". If you could get a close up scan of this section of this card, you might be able to see some paper loss or evidence of erasing if it did in fact have the word reprint there at one point. Just a thought.

I've learned to appreciate these Chicle cards more and more lately. I'm really starting to like them.

GL with whatever you try and do...

Gotta Start Raw. I will grade my Raw ones if they are 3's or better.

Truthfully, any of the better known cards from that set are worth grading, in any grade. I've seen PSA "Authentic" go over $50. Just depends on the card. I don't think they get the appreciation they deserve in the FB market. Unlike Goudey in the baseball market. This set holds the fb collectors holy grail...That makes the rest of the set desirable right there! For me at least. image

I bought some older football from this guy csacards, one of the cards I bought was a raw #33 ernie smith. It was supposed to be VG and it had some pretty serious creases. I paid with a money order.

I emailed him and said I was disappointed in the card, he said to send it back and he would send me a refund. The refund came 2 days later, he had mailed it THAT DAY including shipping both ways. He sent me the refund ($200 or so) before I sent the card back to him.

He has some raw rough chicles, depending on how cheap you want to start out I would definitely check with him. Nice honest seller.

That card looks authentic from the scan, but I don't know for sure. I've been collecting Chicles for about 7 years, and I've been burned multiple times buying raw on eBay. Many raws are obviously trimmed from the scans, others aren't obvious until you have them in your hands.

The text on this one is the correct color on the back, not the green text. It's hard to tell on the bottom if 'reprint' has been scratched off. (Some reprints have 'reprint' written in the bottom center of the card back.) Others have reprint written on the front in black text.

I also agree with both stown and jimq112's comments.
