This order hurts

Not mine. But this one is a darn shame. Someone needs to learn how to grade coins.

What does this mean? That PCGS saved the cost of the holders?

    One coin.

    Sigh...

I wouldn't be surprised if the owner does some real soul-searching about whether they want to keep collecting coins. And that's a shame, because they're obviously attracted to some of the really neat series in our numismatic history.
    When in doubt, don't.

I agree. The graders still had to look at the coins; they still provided a service.

If you browse through the shared order page you'll find tons of submissions like the two in this thread. A startlingly high percentage of coins get bodybagged.

I definitely agree that PCGS provided the service and should get paid for it, the author may also be commenting on the fact that there is no liability for a body-bagged coin as opposed to a PCGS graded coin under the grade and authenticity guarantee.

It's suprisingly hard to get early copper in PCGS or NGC holders.

It's too bad PCGS could not give a break for BB's. In all my submissions I have had three, one DNC, one planchet flaw, and one questionable color. I was most upset about the Planchet flaw, why did they not call to change over to error. I would have paid the difference.

    Still po'd about that one.

Close but the 2 graders and finalizer still had to take some time to review each coin. They just saved on the cost of the slab, label, sealing and db entrance.

This could very well have been an insistant customer at an authorized PCGS Dealer.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Does PCGS give out any sort of booby prize in cases like that?

They should. It ought to at least be a bag of Pistachios. One of the more popular varieties of California nuts.

I think some consideration should be given to the coins that were submitted...getting copper coins from the 1700s/early 1800s into a PCGS or NGC slab cannot be easy. No excuse on the Mercs, though.

That is correct, early large cents must be darn near perfect to get in a PCGS holder. Don't belive me?, look at how many sety are registered under large cents.

What's the lesson here? If you're new to coins and buying raw coins from you trusted local dealer or your new buddy dealer at your local show. Pick out a few and submit ASAP. You can't acquit, if you don't submit.
