I have a chance to buy a 1895-S Morgan, what do I pay?

A co-worker has a lower grade 1895-S Morgan he wants to sell. I need the coin for my set, and would like to make him an offer, but have no idea what to pay. What would be a good offer in G, VG, F, and VF (haven't seen it yet)? I'll see if I can get a picture of it to post.

It is a $400 range coin in those grades. Depends on the overall quality and originality. Also watch out of altered coins. Good people have bad coins they don't even realize are bad.

As the proud owner of 27 of these in different grades, I have some experience here. The keys are, is the coin original (uncleaned); problem-free (no big scratches, cuts, gouges, rim dings, graffiti, etc.); and correctly graded (because the value changes pretty significantly at each grade level). Graded coins sell for more than raw coins, although often not by a whole lot in the lower grades. These price estimates are for raw coins:

Goods tend to go for about $200 and I think are too cheap at that level.
Very Goods are about $325
Fines are about $375
Very Fines are about $425
