Graysider Book Preference

. . . or is it Greysider in Canada?

In an ideal hobby world, should a "standard catalog" type ink-on-paper book be arranged in the traditional denomination-date order or do current collecting trends call for a new approach, such as by monarch-denomination-date?

Should "collector" coins be segregated from circulation pieces or integrated by date?

Do people really collect the portrait varieties of Victorian coins?

Any other book brainsorms pertinent to a Canadian reference?

    Yes, especially the large cents.

I prefer them to be integrated. It's a pain using Charlton at times because of this.

    I like the denomination-date arrangement.

  • I use the "Canadian Coins" book published Charlton Press. W.K. Cross is the author, I believe. Best Canadian coin book I have found so far.

My local dealer swears by Haxby, but I use Charlton.

Maybe we could start a flame war over this.

I like the Charlton book, even with its quirks. I also like the Haxby book but I don't buy it yearly.

    Other Canadain books:

    Charlton: Canadian Colonial Tokens
Charlton: various issues updating Griffin and Zoell varities
    Serge Pelletier: Municipal Trade Tokens

also watch for the reprinted Breton catalogue (green covers)

There are many specialty catalogues. Check out abebooks.com and search for "canadian coins, tokens, medals"
