Is anyone else annoyed by the second slot on PCGS boxes?

This is getting very annoying, slot two of the PCGS boxes are so tight that it is hard to remove coins. is anyone else tired of this?

I've personally never had any problems with any of the slots of the PCGS boxes.

I'm not gay or hairy so its above those for me. I guess if you don't deal with it every day it would not bother you.
  • Have not had a problem with mine.

<<Buy NGC boxes.>> All they send me is a cardboard box with cardboard inserts to seperate the holders, at least PCGS sends you a
    box with your orders.

  • Never noticed that.

I personally find it annoying to put an NGC slab in a PC box and then try to get the lid to stay on, but I have been remiss in not posting about it here.

I bought a bunch of the smokey semi-transparent NGC boxes a while back. They hold PCGS, NGC, new ANACS, and ICG.

I know it sounds petty but when you deal with hundreds of coins and dozens of boxes nearly daily, believe me it gets annoying. My hope with the post is that someone from PCGS would read it and figure out why the injection molding process changed. Again if you don't deal with them it is not going to be relevant.

I also find it annoying. On the other hand, it's nice to hear that I'm not the only one. I just thought I was getting a bunch of crappy boxes. BTW, I probably throw out five PCGS boxes a week, but I keep all the NGC boxes I get.

  • spin it around.....then it is the second to last slot......i have noticed it also.....just afraid to ask....thought it was my imagination.....lol
  • Why don't you call them and vent your frustration towards their free boxes directly at them instead of....hey you want me to call for you?

Is it true that NGC slabs don't fit into PCGS boxes, but that PCGS slabs will fit into NGC boxes?

And yes, I noticed the second position was very tight.

I don't, and haven't noticed. I wasn't meaning to demean your complaint - but I have so many coins in so many different boxes that I have grown used to nothing fitting quite right.

Neither am I gay or hairy, which is probably why those two items are so low on my list image
  • I would rather have a tight slot than a loose one. It holds the coin securely.

  • I have been getting boxes with that problem.
Not all but about every fourth or fith box has the problem. I thought I was just lucky?

I have only had that problem with 1 box that my coins were returned to me in and it was labeled as a Reject in the top inside cover.

And yes, it is very annoying...................

Try prying out an NGC fatty from a PCGS box. Seemed to go in easily enough.

Yes, I've noticed it too... but not on all boxes and not even on most of them.
    When in doubt, don't.

Yes, it bothers me. I would transfer all my PCGS coins into the new silver NGC boxes, except the NGC boxes are a really tight fit into the safety deposit box when placing three on their sides stacked. Stacking only two high in an upright position wastes even more space. The PCGS boxes stand nicely on end, showing their labels nicely. NGC boxes are too high to stand on end.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
  • Yes I find it annoying also. The PCGS boxes have always been inferior in quality to NGC, even for holding PCGS only coins. Therefore, like several of the other members above, I have been using the "smoky semi-transparent" NGC boxes for years now, even though my collection is all-PCGS !!

  • I don't want to upset my NGC and ANACS slabs by being partial to PCGS boxes so I use Intercept Shield storage boxes. image

I only have one PCGS box that has an undersized coin slot so it's not a real problem!

Bear if you're throwing PCGS boxes away send me a few!

It was a joke, man, Jeez. I mean, I do use Intercept Shield boxes for my slabs but....oh never mind.

  • I will tell you what is frustrating. The PCGS boxes will not close when you have an NGC Coin. This drives me crazy and leaves me with only the option to buy the blue Whiman Holders as they work nicely for both. PCGS's passive agressive way of not wanting us to have NGC graded coins???

I'm annoyed that the PCGS and Intercept Shield boxes are tight for NGC slabs. Maybe I should try the NGC boxes. They look better too imo.

Out of hundreds of boxes I have come across two that are like this.

As for the NGC boxes, they crack too easily and are much bigger than the PCGS boxes. If it goes in my collection it goes in a PCGS holder even if the grade gets knocked down so I don't need the NGC holder. If I have NGC then it is for sale and they stack well enough they don't need a box.
  • I have one box that has about 4 slots that are too tight. I guess it happens on a rare occassion. My experience is about one in 100 have the problem.
  • Here's an idea, skip slot 2.

sure does unless you are sending your slab labels back to the TPG so the pop reports can be updated. If you did that, you would be in the vast minority of collectors.

Don't send them back, I keep them with the coin. Thing is, the low grade coins I can afford aren't registry quality, inverstor quality, anything quality other than I liked it, needed it for whatever I was collecting and most importantly, could afford it. Case in point, that ef-45 ANACS CPH.10 I just got the other day.

    Rob

I believe most of the slabbed coins I've picked up should never have been slabbed to begin with.

Pop REPORTS ? that is another story. We all know they are about as effective as counting trees on modern statehoods.

I am surprised someone didn't come along with the first pun I thought when I read the thread.

  • There is no way they are going to re-tool the Mold/Die on the PCGS Box, you are looking at 250K-400K/Mold for that item.

    NGC has the best Box.
  • I like a tight slot myself.

What I find more annoying is the potential for the slab in slot #1 to be scratched by the box if you pull the slab forward as it is being removed from the box.
