    Either AU63 or MS58.

Really hard to tell from the images, but detail seems all there.

it all depends on the luster in the fields. The photo is very hard to tell if there is any. theres no question the detail is there, but light circulation wouldn't touch the incused design, it only knocked off the luster on the fields.

sell it raw, it is definitely not worth grading.

  • I say it is an MS-62

You should slab it. It could grade 64 on a lucky day, assuming the picture is accurate.

Totally, completely disagree. You will realize MUCH more for it if the coin makes it into a PCGS MS63 (or 4, as Andy believes) holder. The upside is hundreds, the downside of an AU result is only the $40 or so getting it into good plastic.

    MS62 is my guess.

Absolutely you should slab it. Raw, you will realize no better than AU money, low $200's, and with people rightly suspicious of the many counterfeits around, you may not even get that. Even if it is only a 62, it seems you ought to get at least $400 or so (I may be a little off here, it's been more than a year since I've bought or sold one of those I think). Definitely submit. If it goes 63 you are up near four figures, and you'll never get close to that if you sell it raw.

Slab it if you want to get what the coin is truly worth. Sell it raw as AU58, and you will always wonder if you sold it too cheaply. Even an ANACS holder will work for this coin.

I agree with the slabers, get a number on the plastic, than go from there.

Cant tell from the photo. If its original, send it in. As for this series: Grading Indian Quarter Eagles is like a box of chocolates..... well, you know the rest. I've had what I thought was a 62 come back 58 and one I thought was 55-58 come back in a 63 coffin!

AU58 is always my answer with any incuse gold that has no overt signs of being worn. Could just as easily be MS62.
    When in doubt, don't.

is it real? I don't know maybe it's just the picture but I get an odd feeling from it- I know it's a scan. What's that wierd looking mark under the R in Liberty? What about those two die crack like marks coming out of the nose and eye? Rear head dress feathers look pretty weak. Another long skinny mark on the reverse from the T to the tail feathers. I am not saying it's a for sure fake but I do question these after getting burned a few times. Maybe a good picture instead of a scan. For sure I would send it in for slabbing. mike

    I would say 58-62.....

You need to get this slabbed to maximize the potential of the coin

That's what usually happens. Now send to PCGS and you will get AU58. Or at least that's what has happened to me a few times. image

  • Yes, you are lucky. I have never had one come back that high. And I have sent in many. They are the hardest to grade. I wouldhave said AU.
