Heritage Lot - Agree W/ Grade? Flying Eagle Cent

I was considering an upgrade and while looking around I saw THIS LOT.

When I blew up the pictures I was surprised at what I saw. It leads me to the question of: Are these "loosely" graded? or is this what a true AU50 looks like?

Thanks.

Not an AU by my standards. Some luster remains but the coin has strike problems. These aren't rare. Why fool around with a coin with strike problems?

I should have clarified my statement. After I blew up the picture; it was not a coin that I would want. I just was wondering if grading on these were looser than what I had thought.

This coin has AU surfaces, but the strike blows. The current high bid is about the absolute max I'd pay for this coin. I'd rather have a better struck XF-45 anyway.

It does not look like an AU50 if the picture is accurate.

Borderline, I would have knocked it down a notch for poor strike as others have mentioned. This is where technical grade means nothing because the coin looks like a dog.

Not a very good looking coin. It may take you a few months but I think you will be able to find a slabbed one in AU condition with a nice strike. As someone who loves these coins (and has spent hundreds of hours searching), my advice is to stick with PCGS slabbed Flying Eagle cents. That is not to say there aren't doggy looking Flyers in PCGS slabs but there are less of them than in NGC slabs IMO.

One more thing: When you do find one that meets all the requirements (nice strike, good luster and eye appeal), don't be afraid to pay a premium--it will be worth it in the long run.

    Good luck.
