1952 Topps (w/scans) - Guess The Grade! - Grades Popped - **Ebay Listed**

Fellow collectors, if you get a chance, I would like you to give me your honest opinion about what kind of grades you think these (14) cards would pull. Above every photo, I give my honest opinion about the condition of each card and what kind of grade I think they would get. I’m going to submit all of these cards at the end of this week.

I always love reading these kinds of posts, so I figured I would start one of my own. Thank you for your time!

I noticed that too, the right corner does the same thing. Strange...

  • I'm not sure how many are trimmed, but I think at least a few are. here is how I'd grade them based on the scans and assuming no creases/surface wrinkles:

6, 5 (maybe trimmed), 6, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, trimmed, trimmed, 6, 6, 6, 7. They're beautiful cards but I think you may be overgrading them a bit. Theoretically, PSA grades all cards equally regardless of the year. Even with a little leeway, I don't see a card with 4 slightly frayed corners getting a 7.

Thank you for your honesty, I do appreicate it! I really don't believe any of these are trimmed. That was the very first thing I checked for when I received them. I measured each card with a machinist scale (to the 1/64) and they are all dead-on-balls 2-5/8" x 3-3/4".

I do agree with you about the grading though, I was reallllly trying not to be bias, but it so hard not to be! lol Thank you.

  • I hope I'm wrong about the trimming. It looks to me like some cards have more border than others, but I'm not a '52 collector so I don't know how they run. If they measure up, then they're probably ok. Whatever they grade, centering is awesome and you should get high end money for them if you decide to sell.

it is rather difficult for us to grade the cards just from looking at scans. its easier in person so you should have a better idea than us.

I understand, I tried to give the best scans that I could, within reason. I just thought it would be interesting to compare our thoughts with PSA "official" grades. Like I said, I always enjoy seeing other pre-sub and post-sub results, so I thought I would add to the flavor. We'll see! image

You've got some really nice cards.

Did you use a 10X loupe?

To start with the Fain - if the upper left corner is really fuzzy - IMO, it's got a shot at a 7 - but definitely a nice 6.

On the cards that Lee saw as trimmed? Without measurement - that's how I saw them also.

Anyway - good luck - please let us know how the sub goes.

So - where did you pick these gems up?

    Thanx for sharing

nice cards! for reference, here are the only 3 '52s I've ever submitted (a couple months ago). the two raw cards ended up as psa 6's.

No loupe, just some good light and 30 year old eyes.

I got the from our favorite, ebay... took a chance, and BIG chance. I had some F-U money laying around and thought it would be fun to handle some 1952 Topps cards. My intent was to buy them, grade them, and sell them. Kind of an experiment. I won't be heart-broken if I don't make my money back (spent $21 per card average). This is the fun part of the hobby, I'm not in it to make money, but that IS a nice part about our hobby. It's enjoyable to me.

I'm overall very happy with the two 7s, but I'm shocked about the Re-Colored remark, and the Evidence of Trimming. I'm looking at the Re-Colored one and I can't see what they're talking about. I'll have to wait until I get the card back. The Evidence of Trimming card kind of looks slightly mis-cut, butI'll measure it when I get it back to make sure.

I listed 14 cards in this thread, but I only sent in 12 of them. Anyway, I'm happy, and I was pretty close with my original guesses.

Nice grades. I can see I undergraded a lot of them from your scans. Glad it worked out. From the scan, it looks like the top left corner of the Simmons might be re-colored, but hard to tell from a scan.

Good job on the grades, Jeff. Are they for your collection or selling?
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

Selling, I'm planning on posting them on ebay as soon as they arrive. It was it be a fun experiment to check out some cards from the hobby's coolest set (IMO), and I wanted to see if I can get them graded and make a little money at the same time. I was hoping for one 7, so I'm ecstatic I got two!
