Is there an issue with this 1954 Franklin Proof?

I am searching ebay for a 52 and 53 franklin proofs and came across this item in an ANACS holder 1952 PF65 but a close look shows the coin to be a 1954, plus I see on the top left something where there is a 1953 date of some sort. I asked politely and received no reply. Anyone know if this dealer is OK? or typo issues? he has not responded

Red flag? 100% feedback but only 24 items sold.

  • This seller was the subject of another thread where there was discussion relative to his use of the NGC logo in his images. There was also something said about his "suite" being a mail drop at a UPS Store. The Franklin appears to be a '54 in an ANACS holder which is incorrectly labled 1952. I enlarged the pic substantially, and I believe the date on the top left is also 1952.
  • It's likely this seller knows the coin in that holder is a 1954 and he would rather get 1952 money for it. My guess is that he is the one who submitted it to ANACS. Judging by the serial numbers on the NGC coins, four of them were graded within minutes of each other. It's likely he submitted those to ANACS, and you don't miss something like this with so few submissions, IMHO.

I would be very careful before I bid on that coin. Obviously some type of lableing error - who knows if it is a 65? With a no return policy on that auction - I would ask lots of questions - then probably would not place a bid.

I also think PCGS ought to give the guy a call and ask why he is listing the PCGS price guide in the auction when the coin is in an ANACS holder. It is highly unlikely that that ANACS coin will bring as much as a PCGS coin in the same grade.

  • Any seller with that much clutter/hype in the auction and no description of said coin sends up red flags in my book...

Wasn't there also a majot thread about how easy some of the new ANACS slabs were to open with out damaging them?

The coin looks to have serious cleaning damage in the fields.

I agree with the other's that that much crap/ hype/key word spamming/ etc is a big red flag. Does PCGS have Life members?

The seller can't afford something other than thier brief case to photograph coins on- What is that?

I checked other auctions- he does use some differnt back groundsCoin on NGC logo

The above is made to imply NGC had grade the coin.

  • There was a thread a couple of days ago on this seller, it may offer some insight. I would stay away, imo.
