I say 15,000 sets! The Mint could care less of us lemmings. All you have to do is look at how all of us who had open orders on plats got jerked yesterday. We'll buy anything and they know that our greed can take the set to 15,000. Also, remember this is a gov't agency with lots of problems in Q&A, customer service, packageing, ordering snafus. They are out to make a buck at our cost. Look at the hundred of millions of P-dollars will be made. Non-circulating Sac/Sak commems? They don't care if it circulates...seinorage is the game.

The only thing that this series has going for it is a banner 2006 W year to stir up interest. Lemmings will buy and expect and demand the same in 2007.

The next two designs will fuel expectations and numbers. Look at how early in the year the Uncs will start selling.

The only silver linning will be the price of plat by the end of the series...but then again, I don't know how much fun it will be living in a world with $2,000 gold and $3,000 platinum.

The money to be made this wont come from the same items. I think it'll be 1oz gold W and its fractionals. The 1oz gold wont be bloated by the 30,000 Anniversary coins. Lemmings will chase the plat W's and dive in after the Buffalo W's and forget about the eagle W.

Ren, I agree with everything you just said, except that maybe the price ratio between gold and platinum will be more dramatic than 2:3. Remember, the supply of platinum is 1/10th that of gold. Palladium might have a strong year, but Russia controls 2/3 of it, so the car makers are wary of switching.

I recommend a search for "Weimar Republic" on Google. Do some reading. It might be worth your time. I also suggest the Kitco website contributors. Although they are invariably "pro-gold", they are probably on point, this time around.

Cladiator may be right in his thread about buying more gold now, on the dip.

  • QUOTE" I was told recently that the Gold and Platinum Eagles were excluded from the 2007 World Series "

The reason is PCGS knowns the 2006-w coins and rare moderns in general are going to torch the rest of the market in the next year and most people that are paying attention can see it. If they don't exclude the MEGA 2006 moderns there will be no competition at all because the classics can't compete with 200-300% in two months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am OK if they go with 10,000 and then strike them at diff mint facilities, and for the buyer it's pot luck (cant you see it coming - COLLECT THEM ALL!)

Later release the mintages and to everyone's surprise.....all mintages are not created equal!
  • IMHO 15000 if they go with the 1/2 ozers and 10000 if they go with the 1 oz , both limited to 10 per household
The reverse proof will be the only meaningful coin value wise as the proof and unc coin will be available separately
    Buy the dips!!!
  • Well guys after much "scratching" the best I could find out was mintages would be "similar" to the 3 coins gold set from last year. Would not be more specific. For what its not worth.........................From the horse's mouth.

    Best Wishes,

    Eric
  • Hmmmm.... Similar....

    Similar: 10,000?

    or

Similar: less than 1/2 of the "normal" issue?

Time will tell... Somehow, I think its the first option image

I like that you have the horses mouth...so to speak. I'm little happier with that number. I still think that is too high. My "guess" was 15,000 because I believe in gov't organizations like to FWU!

"greed is good" Wall Street 1987

That's not my mantra but it seems to be the Mints...buyer beware in '07

If everyone follows my rules of no 4-coin purchases (of plats) and no half ounce purchases, we can make this a great set in spite of the mints greed. Please reread. Seriously, a little restraint can go a long way. So you want to make some more (platinum) money in 2007...you can. Buy the 1oz, the quarter ounce and the tenth ounce. Buy as much as you want. Just heed my words. Stay away from 4-coin and half ouncers. When the 2007 A-Set comes out, buy to your hearts consent within the Mints limit. If you do exactly as I say, and there is a sellout, you will have 10,000 (eric96 projection-horses mouth) RP's that are needed in Registry Sets like the 2006 gold RP. In addition, you will have at best a medium-high mintage unc W and proof W. The saving grace is that there is now a new collector base that needs that RP. Your unc W and Pr W might actually be worth more than melt. Not much. Nowhere the 2006 numbers.

You make a good point. The silver RP was from Philly. However, the plats seem to always be from West Point, W or not. I would love to see a P mintmart platinum RP.

Not only does this make perfect logical sense, it's essential if you don't want to waste money. I can't see the Mint going with any less than 10,000 Anniversary Sets. Unless they start playing around with mintmarks, this will spike the half ounce mintages for 2007- and there is no reason to double up on a high mintage coin.

Never trust the Mint to do what you would like them to do. That pretty much covers it.

  • Well this is just my opinion of course BUT if they came out with the 1oz RP, then the set would be well over $4K each. Combine that with a late fall offering and you could be talking about a max mintage of 5000 with actual sales around 2500. Ya never know.

I just love to speculate...but not with my cash of course image
