Is submitting modern proofs a crapshoot for PR-70

Just like it states.

Is submitting modern proofs a crap shoot for the PR-70 grade?

Or is something actually keeping them from going 70?

I have one that I would like to submit, that I can see absolutely nothing wrong with... but im trying to decide it its worth it or not.

I have seen it literally double in price in 70 over the last year... but 69 doesnt change.

Of course, just read some of the threads where people are whinning because they only got PR69's and theu're ready to comit suicide if they get a 68

No, it's not a crapshoot for the proofs. The US Mint really has outdone themselves of late with regards to some of the PROOFS being released. Even I've scored a few 70's at PCGS. I am sure I have a few more US mint proofs that could be PR 70, but... I am much more interested in high grade business strikes and uncirculateds (commems) than Proofs.

Further investigation only reveals one known PR70 for this coin. I wonder what the chances are that mine would double that?

Depends. I send in lots I get a few 70's. I look at the 70's and don't find any marks, I look at the 69's and can usually pick out whey it is not a 70. If I can't figure out why a 69 did not get 70 I assume the blemish is on the rim where I can't see it.

I continue to believe that proof 70s are handed out on a percentage basis.
