My CoinShow Report - San Antonio Feb24th

I had hopes of possibly meeting Barndog at the show but I couldn't get over to the show until a little later. By the time I got there, BD had already cherried an R-7 Capped Bust Half-Dime !!! You know, the "dog" set the bar pretty high; so all I could do was walk under it.

It was a small show but with everyone crammed in a small area it seemed packed. In fact just finding a parking space was tough as I had to park in an adjacent field and walk over.

Since I didn't really have a plan and have kind of over-spent lately, I was mostly just looking around. I did bring a few of my coins in case I could go for any upgrades.

Walking through the doors the first table in front of you was the one I think BD cherrypicked. He still had some nice coins; mostly slabbed. One that caught my eye was an 1853 A/R Half in Anacs AU50. Nice looking coin but a little pricey for my circ set.

On the Classic Commem front; several tables had raw coins mostly low end stuff although one table towards the back had a gorgeous Lafayette raw ($1900). I always wonder when I see a coin like that why it hasn't been slabbed image.

There were LOTS of coins in 2x2's and piles of books to look through.

A couple of tables had proofsets (for MadMarty) but it looked like they had been picked over pretty good.

I did find a guy with a slabbed '36 Texas Commem which is a coin that I've been looking for an upgrade on. We traded with me having to kick in a $10 bill to boot.
While both coins were PCGS '36 Texas Commems in MS66; I was happy to do the deal. The coin I traded him was nice (fairly newly graded) and did have some very slight rim toning; but had quite a few more small dings on it. The one I got from him is pretty much white; but with fewer dings and much better luster and is a green labeled holder. One other thing and it has nothing to do with the coin; but the one I traded him had a permanent fingerprint on the holder (at least I couldn't remove it) and it always bothered me.

Other than that; there was lots of talk about "metals pricing"; but one guy was selling tubes of ASE's as low as $16 a coin. Bullion rounds were going for $15 (not bad considering spot was $14.60 or something Friday)

Thats all from me.

Here's pics of the Texas I picked up:
