darkside/lightside?

as a newbie I have to ask this question. I keep seeing references to lightside and darkside coins. Are lightside coins American and darkside coins all foreign?

Some might argue that darkside refers to foreign, in which case for those who live outside the US, the US coins are part of the darkside.

I used to like thinking that liteside (my preferred spelling

) does refer to the US alone given the overall history and design of the coins. But I've been developing a little more appreciation for the US coins of late. (Don't tell anyone, but I've recently started a Dansco 7070).

Really though, I mostly have one foot in the darkside and one foot in the farside--maybe it's just my left elbow that's gone liteside on me.
