Air-Tite Coin Holders

How do you get the coin out, once it is in the Air-Tite???

I can't pry these things open for the life of me and am about to take a ball-pein hammer to it:!!!!


Help me before I damage something!

  • actually, pretty easy. I just grab a sharp kitchen knife and it will slip between the sides and then just lever it apart.

    yep, just a knife with a thin blade to slip between the seams.

    NO, NO. The fastest, best, safest way is to just take a Butane torch, light it, put the flame on the air-titie and only the coin will be left. You could soak it in Sulfuric Acid which usually melts plastics. Put in a pan of boiling water. The plastic will stretch faster than the metal of the coin.
    The smartest way is to bet some 10 year old kid he can't get it open. You'll loose every time.

    I find them to be a PITA too, so I don't use them.

    I have a little pocketknife with me most of the time. tiny blade to open the coolest of holders (IMHO)

    I don't understand all the frustration about these things. I love them and use them to house dozens of half dimes. Usually a fingernail is all I need to open them up with ease. I think two or three times I've used the edge of a knife. AirTite's are my preferred method of raw coin storage.
