Seated Dimes: 1840-O die variety set with nice images
Fellow seated variety collectors....
Yes, it was me who bought the Heritage Long Beach 1840-O dime graded PCGS MS61. Dick Osburn previewed the dime and called it MS63/MS64 strike and surfaces without luster thus the grade. Indeed $6900 is moon money for a low end 1840-O mint state dime these days, but I am on a mission to build a variety set with all dimes being AU or better. Clearly I cannot affored the MS64 and MS65 grades that were on the market recently. This is insanity when trying to build a date level variety set. But as a common guy, my 1840-O variety set is advanced and I though it would be nice to share the set with PCGS forum members. You will note that I'm still missing the F-107 variety. So here goes...

I know pretty much nothing about early dimes and seated coinage, but just wanted to say thanks for a great post. One of the great things about this forum is seeing informative posts by enthusiastic collectors. Wonderful coins and varieties. What are the diagnostics for the varieties and attribution elements to look for within the series? Once again, thanks for posting...
Buying top quality Seated Dimes in Gem BU and Proof.
Buying great coins - monster eye appeal only.
Mint state examples are have risen in price during the past two years and the pricing guides are way off.... If you can buy a MS63 certified 1840-O dime (PCGS or NGC) for $2500, then buy as many as the seller has.......
As for the seated dime series, there are at least a 1000+ varieties. I've tried to make variety collecting an achievable challenge by publishing the Top 100 Seated Dime Varieties. I'm sure that many PCGS forum readers are well aware of the Top 100 as are the members of the LSCC.
