Has anybody heard anything about varieties of the prez dollars?

I have a trading partner for the state quarter rolls, and he just sent an email to me saying that there is a 'hub-bub' about the lettering on the edge of some of the presidential dollar coins being upside down, when you look at the coin with the obverse up. He says that he's got coins from a Denver roll ( he sent me one - I'll have to go check it!) that do have the edge lettering in both variations when he holds the coin heads-up. Has there been any mention of this on the boards yet? I don't visit as often as I used to, so I may have missed it, but I did a quick advanced search and didn't turn up any topics....?

There have been a few threads.
In a nutshell, it is "by design" and will happen. The edge lettering is put on after the obv/rev strike and the coins are not oriented when they go for the edge lettering. So, they can be up, or down, then struck. I have about a 60/40 split on these for what I have seen so far. Others say it is close to 50/50.

    Nothing special about it.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • Thanks - I'll let him know not to quit his day job!
