NGC 65 Presidential Dollars

Well, the first graded Washington dollars are now on ebay, and a pair of NGC 65's are going for about 140.00 with five days left. Looks like NGC may have been the place to submit, not PCGS, to get a numerical grade and the big bucks. I mean, if NGC is giving out only 65s, probably not many PCGS coins will grade. (Of course, I sent mine to PCGS... grrrrr)

Patently ridiculous prices for such. It is now obvious that the Mint can turn out potmetal coins of incredible ugliness, NGC to encapsulate and them to bring crazy prices. Let us watch how it all goes!

That's some crazy stuff. Are 65s that hard to make? I saw three NGC 65 sets on eBay right now, and they're all up in the silly money range.

Use the law of large numbers for your advantage - I'm putting m,y YN to work to look through a thousand to select the 5 or 10 best ones.....

Good idea, but I think I will buy some M&M's with my own dollar.

I wish pcgs would lower their minimum grade to ms65 on the first day issues since the quality was so low. I know I sent in lots of 65's.

  • PCGS will give out number grades too not just the BU. There is a thread that talks about the sliding submission fees.

I pulled two Washingtons out of one Denver roll that I guarantee would get a grade of MS66 even at PCGS. I realize that is a lofty claim so I'll post images and let you all see for yourselves and offer opinions. I have to image them first and I'll repost next week.

Imo grades of MS65 are not THAT hard to make. Yes most I've seen are a couple points below that, but there is usually 2 in each roll I've seen that will grade 65.

Unbelievable people are paying this kind of money. That's it I've got to stop sitting on the side lines and get in on some of this frenzy for modern coinage. They'll help me pay for my Type coins.

65's are going to be hard in PCGS. I looked at over 600 Washington Dollars so far and most were 63's and lower. First Day of Issue at 65 watch out! Have to watch the pops on these. I had an earlier thread about the ICG MS 67's in first day issue sets even if they grade at PCGS's 65's I see them as a good deal too.

Are these first day of issue pieces, or the coins in general? A roll I looked through yesterday looked like it had at least a few 64+ pieces... that I then mishandled thinking they were pocket change image

I looked through my 2 rolls and saw nothing above MS63. 65s might be hard, but not worth getting excited over, IMO -Preussen

I think we may be grading these too harshly. Maybe we will be surprised at the grades that come.

First ones out there are always going to get the high prices.
Look at the 20th Annv sets for the SAEs.....

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
