The fact that 291fifth came to the same conclusion as PCGS tells us a little bit about the state of grading at PCGS as of right now.

Everyone has a good day. If you get enough Monkey's on typewriters, they will eventually write a book.

2. 291Fifth who?
3. AU-50... AU-55 if it went through NCS
4. XF-45 I still have some faith in the process..

XF-40 ~ 10% chance
XF-45 ~ 80% chance
AU-50 ~ 10% chance
Another option....
AU-55 ~ 35% if you resubmit to NGC, after having it NCS'd, but I would have to protest this option, as you'd be ruining a perfectly nice, original coin.

I think that there is considerable difference between the two, and to answer PerryHall's question, there is some luster in the protected areas of the 43-O:
Is there any luster under the protected areas?
Based on detail, wear, and color, XF-40 is conservative. Dealers would jump all over that coin in a PCGS XF-40 holder. Put that in an auction, you would have some dealers think they could upgrade it to XF-45, others to AU-50, and still others to AU-50+ (If luster is visible). There would definately be a battle.
On a side note, if it was recently graded, I'm not surprised at such a conservative grade. Word has it that dealers who are major submitters are getting creamed at the moment, and Longbeach was supposedly a bloodbath for crackout specialists.
Have a great weekend everyone!

<< <i>For comparison, this coin looks like an accurately graded XF-40 (IMO):
Looks more like a very fine+ to me (or a "25" in the new English.)
