Polish Solidarity Coins ( Big Pictures! )

I never saw these for sale before so when I did, I just had to bid the moon for them. I lost anyway! image ( If there was a crying smiley I would have used it but since there isn't I'll use the laughing one instead).

I had sent the fellow an email before bidding asking if he had any other sets and he replied that he had 3 sets just like theseimage I asked him if he would sell them as a BIN and he asked me how much I'd like to pay. My offer was too low as the sale went on. He sold another set apparently as a 2nd offer. So imagine my surprise and great delight when he called me on the phone and sold me the last set and a price I was happy to pay, AND express mailed it to me ( will be here tomorrow! )

Very cool! Maybe the seller sold it to you because he was more interested in selling to an appreciative customer, rather than gunning for every last buck he could wring out. Thanks for posting the pix image.

Your welcome! I would like to believe that. It was a crazy day with the sets delivery as he mispelled my street address. When I alerted him to that last night he apparently got on the phone and frantically tried to get the address changed. The flights were delayed coming from California and got to Fla late this afternoon. The postal supervisor called me and asked me where I'd like them to be delivered and I told her my box address. Too late to get them today but tomorrow I shall be at the post office first thing. I can't wait to have them in hand.

Has anyone else seen the complete set like this? I never have.

I finally got those two back from NGC! I've bought several sets of these coins in the original mailer. All came back as business strikes. The highest grade business strike thus far came from an ebayer in Shanghai China and it came back MS-67.

These two however I paid the moon for ( I'm not telling image ) and I'm soooo happy about the outcome. Here they are:

    Nice! image

I've seen a few of this type floating about and it's not something I actively collect.. based on that poor analysis alone I woulld've figured it wasn't too terribly uncommon? (Though I've scarcely seen the set with packaging before)

Could we coax a ballpark figure out of ya? just to get an idea of the scarcity?

I'm curious now! and while it isn't a type I've searched for, it has been on my "eventually, for historical interest/significance" list. image

    Nice grades anyhow image

Spoon, the pair cost me less than what one "proof" has been selling for. I've seen the proofs sell for $500-$800.00 for raw coins ( each )

I've always liked the design on these... there are different varieties, some of them are quite a bit cheaper than the prices you quoted.

Interesting toning on the obverse left fields. I wonder what might have caused the scratch-like toning.

Could have been made when slipping it out of the holder, or brushed something up against it. It's more noticeable in the pic than in person. There's a teeny tiny mark next to it ( looks like a slight shadow or darker toning in the pic).

It may not be a cameo but the color is gorgeous and it looks nicer in hand than in the pic. I got it today and in my opinion people must have been asleep when I clicked the button on this one.image

Like that error! I'd like to find a few off struck pieces.

Here's another version of the Solidarity.

On the previous issue there's also a smaller version. Same design just smaller. No images right now. I've got a mini hoard of these coins.image
