Question for Canadian coin collectors...

Over my many travels through Canada, I have never seen a 50c given in change. But the Canadian coin book I have shows distinct mintages of these coins. What gives? Do the banks in Canada have them but don't circulate them, like our Kennedy half here in the US? Where do these coins go?

I live just south of the border and have been given one in change. I believe, just like you said, that they circulate similar to our Kennedy's.
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.
  • I live in Canada, and have received 2 in change my entire life. I have in the past bought mint rolls from the post office. When most people get one in change it is most likely put away in some collection with the '73 mountie quarter, and the '67 rabbit nickel.

No wonder the CIBC teller looked at me like I was insane a few years back. She probably has not seen one in her entire life, and here comes this American asking for them.image

When I asked for 50 cent pieces while on vacation in BC I was offered two US half dollars they had (they didn't carry Canadian 50 cent pieces and got the two strays from a customer).

I had the same experience in BC also - at a bank, even.
