Still looking for examples of cleaned coins as I shop. Is this one cleaned or am I wrong again

    Nearly every bust half you see on ebay is cleaned or damaged. Less than 5% are original and problem-free. Even the ones that look good in the pictures are usually wiped or hairlined, and you can bet that the sellers know it.

    Abrasively cleaned, as you can see from the hairlines. Avoid these, unless an extremely rare variety.

    I doubt even 1% of the raw Bust Halves on ebay have not been cleaned.image
    I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
  • It's really too bad that early Bust Halver are cleaned. I have two, one dipped and one cleaned with re-toning. I wish our fore-fathers did not clean them.

    One of them is on my sig line.

    Our forefathers didn't. We did back in the 1960's and early 70's when a coin couldn't be sold unless it was nice and shinny
    Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
