Be careful when making offers "just for giggles"...

... you never know when one might be accepted. image

I had made an offer on this Graubunden piece back in July. Nice rainbow toning. 2,000 pieces originally minted, with over 1,300 melted... I imagine not too many examples extant after all this time.

My offer of $200 below his ask was pretty much laughed at.

Fast forward 7 months. The piece has increased $100 in XF, and increased $250 in UNC in the new 19th Century Krause. I figure it's an AU piece minimum.

So I make a fresh offer just to see if the intervening period had loosened his pricing at all, but based on previous communication I just assumed he'd deny again or counteroffer...

Oops. Offer accepted. I hadn't really planned on this budgetwise. image

Looks like I'll be selling off more stuff... image

Hmmmm, a week and a half ago, very early in the AM's (after a party), I placed a $93.50 dollar bid on a very nice French art plaque.

What I did was place a $9,350 bid (not what I would consider "giggles" but I'm sure j-Inumismatique giggled). Gotta watch that comma/period! I never noticed the error and won the item for $250+ shortly the next morning. I was probably lucky but not pleased... most I would have gone was $100- could have been a whole lot more!!

Thankfully, after a friendly negotiation, he kept the art plaque and gave me good feedback, I rendered the same unto him plus US$25.image

Wow, Laurent, that could have been potentially very bad...

    Yes, it could have.

Well it was too good to be true. The coin is VERY harshly cleaned. Luckily the seller is very easy to deal with and has no problems with me returning the coin for a full refund (I sent him the pictures below and he agrees with my assessment of the coin).

That blows, CP. Wonder what fate awaits this coin. The way I see it - either send it to ANACS and have it encapsulated as "cleaned" or make it a pocket piece until the hairlines are gone, which would drop the grade to VF - tops. I would go with option #1, myself. I wonder what the seller would do...
