Buying cards off ebay can be addicting! As can BBCE, CU Pack Rips, BST, etc., etc. image

I hid a ton of stuff from my wife Dave.

    Now, she's wise...she checks everywhere!

I just bought some stuff on ebay over the past month - my rationalization - Mary I didn't buy anything last year!!!!

    Didn't fly.

  • It is easy to hide the buying, the tough thing is getting the mail before her.image

I just sell more to buy more. Cards, cds, tools, etc. to keep it out of the "house" money.

  • Well i just found out a couple of minutes ago that this afternoon my wife booked 4 tickets on Southwest Airlines .

Turns out were taking another vacation to Florida at the end of March. ( we had both agreed a couple of months ago that we weren't going to take another trip for a while because we had spent so much on airfare the last couple of years )

All of a sudden i don't feel so bad image

  • Dave,
I feel your pain!! My wife decided to attned last Sunday's show with me. She sat happily and greeted customers..helped out...and TOOK all the money!! lol

She said she wanted to play banker for the day...

So the promoter comes over and wants us to pay for the tables. She looks at me and says.."well...pay him!!" Knowing full well I went with a couple hundred in my pocket. God forbid..it comes out of the actual show money!!lol

Then..I walk over to another dealer and bought 2- 1989 Fleer baseball boxes for $5 each.

You should've seen the look on her face when I came walking back with them!! "How much were those?? Don't you already have about 10 of those in your office??...are yuo looking for that stupid FF card?"

Hey..give her credit...atleast she listens enough to know what I'm trying to pull!!!

It's just tough to get them to see things through our eyes.

Of course my quick wit got to her when she asked about the price.....my reply was simple and to the point...and from the LOOK..I could tell it hit home:

"How much were they?...ummmm about 1/10th of what you spent on your hair and nails yesterday!!"
  • Sounds like you did not buy enough cards..... She still had money in the account

    Good point !

Matt, my mom and dad just moved to West Melbourne, my brother and his family live in Melbourne and my sister lives in Naples.

Im sure we'll do the Disney thing again although my wife mentioned going to Universal instead maybe

How far are you from Melbourne ?

No way man, we keep our money seperate. She stays off my back about my card problem, and I stay off her back about her shoe problem. It's one happy home!

A warm body is vastly overrated, "Intimacy" and freedom rule my world. To each his own.

Problem in my household is that she rarely ever spends money on herself so i don't have that ammo against her. When she spends money it's either for the kids or for the everyday needs for the family

Plus the fact that she makes more money than i do, i can't put up much of a fight

The only argument i have is reminding her that she knew what she was getting into when she married me when it came to my love of sports and cards/memorabilia

Sell $76 worth of stuff you don't care about - books, cd's, commons whatever. Better yet - sell $176 worth and buy her something.

That brought a tear to my eye.

Tell her that card keeps me too busy to look at porn, so its a Smart card. lol

  • My wife doesn't spend much on herself either. I use the same excuse that she knew about it before she married me.

But, if my wife were no longer in my life? I gotta say - relationships are work!

My wife says nothing about my spending on cards. She knows that I enjoy collecting and says that I work hard to provide for my family so do it. She also knows that I have smartened up (somewhat) in what I am buying and that most of the stuff will(should) maintain its value in the years to come. Someday the kids will inherit all of it...am I lucky or what.

  • I have a seperate bank account for my cards (websites) and when I started making my wifes car payment on a regular basis she stopped complaining about the cards arriving in the mail. Now she often asks me; "Can you pay this bill?"

I say we should give our wifeys a choice...either we spend money on cards or spend money at the nudie bar.

Of course we're gonna do both anyway. image

My wife got the upper hand on me the other night. She went shopping for some maternity clothes and called me on the way home to tell me what she got. "Cool, how much was all that?" I said.

"Oh, they were on sale," she replies. image

You know what that means. Unfortunately I'm too stingy to even retaliate by spending money on myself.

For the last few months I have limited my purchases to the amount of net sales I have made on Ebay. I have sold cards and tons of other CRAP. Selling cards that I have duplicates of and selling other crap is just FOUND money. Coin collection going up next time I have time.

well this is how i deal with it. i dont ask questions after my wife goes shopping how much she spent. however, i know that wouldnt stop her from asking me how much i spent on cards. thats why i have a po box. ebay stuff goes there not home. this way she doesnt see what i am getting and i dont have to answer the question. i do have cards shipped to my house every so often, but they are usually not very expensive. that way when she asks what was in that package, i can proudly say oh... that was a favre card that i bought for $2.we also have a curbside mail box that isnt locked which is the main reason for the PO box. so larger value cards dont come to the house much.

my wife also has a habbit of opening my mail as well, years back i thought i corrected her of this habbit by having xmas gifts shipped in the mail at different times of the year. she would open them and then show me. i would say well thats too bad you opened it...that was suppose to be a gift...well i guess you opened it early then. but that still doesnt stop her much.
