Toning Factory? Or just a great spot to store coins?

Toning Factory

I have read with interest the recent threads about AT and NT. Toning experts, please tell me if what I am doing is natural or artificial...


I put a (slabbed) coin high on a shelf in the room above my garage a few years ago. In about 3 months, I looked at it again and it then had the most beautiful indigo blue toning I had ever seen. Subtle, but pleasing to the eye.

...So I put my Dansco's with some lesser-value coins on that same shelf. SAME RESULT except not quite as dramatic. There are a couple of dimes that went rainbow-SCARLET red which I've never seen before.

The shelf is high up, near the ceiling and I have kept all of the nick-nacks in place so as not to destroy my 'toning area'.

Am I an AT wanker? Or an NT wonk?

Opinions are being solicited. Have fun. The photo is an actual inside look at a toning factory <g>

The question I asked is whether or not I can consider these coins naturally toned. Regardless of what's in the pictures, these coins toned in a Dansco album in about 4 months. The same album they've been in since 1986 without toning until relativvely recently.

There was no action taken other than placing them on a shelf where I had first stored (hidden actually) a single coin and noticed that it toned nicely in that spot inside my home.

So, what I'm thinking makes all the difference? If PCGS bags these coins, it is because they know I wanted them to tone? Or is it because I moved them from the bedroom to the bonus room?

Just trying to understand this AT/NT thing.

NT fer shur.............in an album, on the shelf, it did'nt happen overnight. But I like white coins.

Hmm...does this area have a higher moisture content? Is it causing bleeding from the album?

It's a gas from the shelf, I have a stained shelf at home and it will tone coins. I had a capitol holder and it turned the Kennedy Halves blue!

You can't tell from the picture, but that shelf is up next to the ceiling. It is probably the warmest place in the house, and stays maybe 77-79 degrees. I think the humidity is very dry in that spot.
