First Day of Issue Washington Dollar

I know there are several threads out there on this issue, but,

I believe that this First Day of Issue designation is going to be HOT.......

As we all know people are buying plastic, First Strike plastic is much more in demand than non-First Strike.

First Day of Issue plastic, for the First Presidential Dollar, only available to coins postmarked and submitted on Feb 15, only in bulk orders.....

Definite success...

I laughed about the Delaware Quarter Mini Bags when first issued as a gimmick, and then cried as a $29.95 investment moved to the $700+ range.......

Yep those Delaware bags are hard to come by at that price. Give it another 10 years and the Washington Dollars might just be the same. The mints website has been swamped from a rep I talked to on Monday since last week. I would try to put your subscriptions in for the Presidential Proofs. Most likely you will get knocked off the website on the first day of sales for the proofs.

First Day Plastic is in! I thought by now the first day/early issue fad would fade. No way-Jose. When these GW Dollars start popping up on Feebay in two weeks the price should be strong. ICG has already been selling them for HSN but most members to this forum know how we rate ICG. PCGS should do quite well.

Ok....thought about it...give me the first day plastic because at least I get a real coin with it

I think there were a bunch sent in, but unless you were reading the message boards, were able to get to the bank, and get them in the mail that day you are SOL for getting the holders. Sellers are only going to have either the D's or the P's, getting sets is going to be tough. It will be interesting to see what the POPS do and if one is going to be more common than the other. I had to scramble but I was able to get a bunch of D's sent in. Dollar collecting is always hot, and I agree the First Days will do well. I put a min grade of MS66, I wonder if I should change that to MS65 before it too late. What do you think, 65's in first day holders worth the price of slabbing?

I just called and changed my min. grade from MS66 to MS65. Also slab remainder as BU first day issue.

They originally said they would not grade any of them lower than ms66, the rest would be BU.
Are they now saying MS65 will be graded?

First day of issue, Are we collecting stamps or coins. Exactly how many Washington Dollars minted on day one first day and how can pcgs account for first day issue populations. This is the sad joke only ms60 to 64 slab B.U. first day issue.

PCGS GUIDANCE FOR PRESIDENTIAL DOLLAR COINS

Effective February 13, 2007

BACKGROUND

Beginning in 2007, the U.S. Mint will produce a series of circulating one-dollar coins to honor each of the American presidents. The coins will be issued in the order in which the Presidents served. Four Presidential coins will be issued each year until the series is completed. The first coin, the Washington $1, is expected to be released on February 15, 2007. Each of the Presidential coins features an edge incused with the mottoes “E Pluribus Unum”, “In God We trust”, the date and the mintmark.

INNOVATIONS AND OPTIONS

PCGS offers a variety of new innovations and options for this exciting series. Innovations include a new, three-prong gasket that will afford a clear view of the edge of the coins, where the incuse date and mintmark will be located. Options include colorful, collectible inserts and a First Day of Issue option. PCGS offers the following guidance for submissions of the new Presidential $1 coins:

1. Tri-ViewTM Gasket (standard). All Presidential Dollars will be holdered with a new, three-pronged gasket. The coins will be oriented in the gasket so that the date and mintmark are clearly visible.
2. First Day of Issue (optional). Presidential coins delivered to PCGS on the first official day of their release (February 15 for the Washington $1) or sent in sealed packages postmarked on that date will qualify for a special First Day of Issue designation.
3. Custom Inserts (optional). PCGS offers custom-designed, colorful inserts to form a collectible subset of the Presidential coin series.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Single Presidential Coins may be submitted under any service level. These coins will bear the regular blue PCGS insert and are ineligible for either the First Day of Issue or the Custom inserts.

First Day of Issue and Custom Inserts are only available through the PCGS Bulk Submissions program. Each order must contain a minimum of 100 coins. Does anyone have any info on the PCGS Proof Prez Dollar Program? Last post I recall seeing by Coinking said that PCGS was still working out the details, but I could have easily missed a post. Any info is greatly appreciated.

If PCGS somehow comes up with a way to do a 1st day of issue on the proof set, I think it could be a winner.
