The VF30 is much better quality and nice for the assigned grade. I would wait for a better O.111, they are fairly common. Actually, both of these varieties are the only common 1805's, the other varieties will take years to locate them all, not including O.114 (2 known).

Okay, I am in the minority here....I voted for the XF...... I don't see the cleaning that everyone is talking about, although it is likely that the coin was dipped at some time. To me, no big deal. While the toning on the reverse is not to my great liking, the amount of AU detail and the luster hidden within the devices makes this coin a "keeper" to me. I would not, however, turn the VF one away if she showed up at my door...a very nice semi-crusty piece which is at a pleasing yet affordable stage of wear. either would be welcome in my type set, although the XF would cause me to have to upgrade too many of my other pieces.... Isn't it great to have a differing opinion?

First of all, the 30 should be a 35 any day. Secondly, love the original crust on the 30. Finally, that's one funny looking 45 photo (makes it looked polished).
A classic example of eye appealing trumping over a much higher graded coin. The classic date coinage has seen such a scourge of cleaning, that eye appeal is the only way to go on early date coins.
The EF45 has absolutely zero eye appeal and I would not have it in my collection, however, the VF30 is very attractive and I would be delighted to have coins like this populating my sets.
dorkkarl, for a smart guy you do sure post some stupid responses.
Myself, I prefer the surfaces of the lower grade coin and the detail of the higher grade coin, and either would look nice in a collection that matched it in attributes.

I am with the VF-30 people.
Give me the XF any day of the week. Probably just had an old dip that is retoning. Nice coin.
